  1. Last night, I'm in a $4.40 180 SnG on Stars, and get to the final table with an average stack size. About an hour later, we're down to three, and I take a horrible beat that leaves me with about 15K in chips with blinds at 1500/3000.

    Stack sizes look as such:

    Me - 15K
    Villian - 146K
    Player 3 - 109K

I go on an awesome rush, and take down 12 of the next 17 pots. In hand 18, I double up and completely cripple Villian when I flop TPTK and he pushes me all-in and misses his open-ended straight draw.

    Stack sizes now look like:

    Me - 170K
    Villian - 22K
    Player 3 - 78K

Two hands later, I get T7o in the big blind. Villian on the button calls, Player 3 in the small blind calls, and I click my check button to see the flop...

... but instead of a flop, I see all 5 LED's on my cable modem go dark!

I scrambled for 15 minutes, cussing and throwing things around, trying anything I could to revive the SOB. I pulled out my work laptop, and was moving to different areas of the house, hoping to snag a wireless signal from the neighbor, to no avail. After 15 minutes, I just gave up and decided to just hit the sack.

This morning, I walk into the office and quickly check my e-mail, certain to see the inevitable "3rd place finish" message, when I see the following:

pokerstars Tournament #26471175, No Limit Hold'em
    Buy-In: $4.00/$0.40
    180 players
    Total Prize Pool: $720.00
    Tournament started - 2006/06/14 - 22:11:17 (ET)

    Dear mdh6424,

You finished the tournament in 2nd place.
A $144.00 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

So as luck would have it, my mini-rush before the modem meltdown probably earned me a few bucks. Thanks to the donkey who finished third for having no common sense!
  2. Obviously, you would know if he's a donk or not, but he might not be. You had the chip leader. But, third place with 22K chips, would have to win a pot (if 2nd place kept pushing him in). So, if I'm 2nd place there, I would keep pressure on the third place person, knowing if I can eliminate them, I just have to run through your chips to win the event.
  3. needs: wireless internet card
