One could make an argument that he is both the most overrated and most underrated poker player. He is clearly overrated in his own mind and that of the media's, but more people on this site think he is bad at poker and really undervalue what he actually does do very well and concentrate on his flaws.

im not really focusing on his flaws, I just think he plays hands bad. How many times have u watched him play, and just wondered to urself how he has made so much $$?
last 2 times i watched poker on TV he folded queens pre with like 14 blinds to a single raise. I honestly dont think he understands that he should be playing vs ranges not just putting someone on a single hand and making redic. folds b/c of it
and made a fold with q7dd on a 456dd board with a ton of money already in the pot...how does he not understand u have to call? how can u just go against math? Surely someone who has played for 20 fkin years and made millions could understand that you can't fold there!!!!!!!!!
I'm also pretty sure that he bet/folded the flop with the Q7dd hand, guess its ok to treat ur 14+ outer the same as ur KJo there phill hellmuth did it! -
Go against the math? Go and plug in your Q7d on a 4d 5d 6h board against 66, 55 or 44. You're a 60/40 dog you donkey. Phil is good enough (as he showed with his 30th finish) to get his money in better.

If you think Phil Helmuth sucks then your out your fkn mind. IMO
-
Katt Williams, he's not a player at all, he's an idiot.
-
ok go back and look at the hand, i guarentee he didnt even need 40% to make the call profitable.....and the other players range isnt only sets boss. Saying he's passing up these edges because he can get his money in better doesnt make any sense. What makes good players good is there ability to recognize when the odds are in there favor and take advantage of it over and over and over till there rich...not to just give there money away by making laydowns that are just dumb.
-
why edgamacate these clowns?

Well obv its Helmuth. You cant just constantly make the most retarded beginner mistakes ever, have absolutley no clue how to play a short stack, play that weak vs good players, etc and be considered anywhere near the best. Not saying he's not a winning player in live tournies, cuz he obv is, bc there are soooo many weak/bad players in live tournies. Ya, he has 11 bracelets, but imagine the best online players playin all of the tournies he has the past 20 yrs vs the weakest fields imagineable. Its not a coincidence that all the good players, who have seen him play, say hes bad (compared to other good players, not compared to ur avg live mtt player) and all the clowns blindly say hes the greatest.
-
yea this, im sure most good players could win some 180 ways and a few tourneys with 1000+ players over 20 years as well
-
Helmuth does a few things incredibly well, IDK if anyone in the world gets people to gift them their stacks in easier fasion than Helmuth, he's also a very good hand reader. He's got his flaws but he isn't straight up awfull, and his major flaw is probably amplified by the online community because erry nicca know dat you gots to play the short stack on the internets, which Helmuth's shortstacking skills are lacking to say the least.
I'd go with Chris Fergusen. -
If you're gonna quote stats please use them properly.

These are the field sizes when he won his braclets
I would estimate the average play in these would be about what would see in a $50 freezeout....WOW 11 wins in 20 years sick!!!!!!!!!
You say 20 years, how many tournaments is that - it's a hell of a lot less than you'd amass online. Even if it was 20 tournies a year that's 400 tournies and to have 11 wins is pretty sick. (I don't know how many he has played)
Don't get me wrong, i think ke makes god awful plays too, but if you're going to criticise him using math, at least make it realistic.
