So, I discovered a great website last Friday. It introduces players in London to various home games around the city. Even if you don't live in London, it's well worth a look as the guy who writes it has a great sense of humour.

After a bit of hasty negotiation with the missus, I rolled up for a game near me. This wasn't a home game as such - it was held in a working man's club. It was an 10+1 tournie with 57 runners. Although the buy in was small, there were clearly some good players (even a few semi-pros) there, having a laugh with their mates.
I'd been playing badly the previous week and this tournie, my first ever live one, was really good for me. I played my best game and even though I didn't get big cards I was patient, tight and aggressive. Long story short, after 5 hours, including 50 minute roller coaster heads-up with a very good player I won the tournie for 250.
I've been beating the $6.50s at stars for ages now but had always wimped out of moving up because there are so many holes in my game. But I took the plunge this weekend and wish I'd done it earlier.
I really expected the $16s to be a step change from the $6.50s and I was amazed at how poor the play was. You can't tell much from a 20 game sample of course and it would be stupid to say that the $16s are worse than the $6.50s but it certainly seemed that way this weekend. Almost every table I played had 3-4 ultra loose (40%+ VSIP) players and I saw only 1 or 2 players who had the faintest idea of how to play the bubble.
Frankly I was shocked, pleasantly so, but still shocked. For anyone else that plays the $16s, is my experience very atypical? -
Very beatable. I have been running bad the last couple weeks, but usually ITM40%. These usually dont take more than 35 minutes to finish unless you run into everyone else that is trying to take advantage of these limits also.
GL to you

I moved up from the 6.50's to the 16's last month and I saw much of the same quality play that I had seen in the 6's. If you can beat the 6's handily with a 15+% ROI or better, then moving up and beating the 16's is just a matter of whether your bankroll is strong enough to handle it. As long as you are still comfortable enough in your bankroll should happen to lose 4 or 5 buyins, they are really profitable. 12-15$/hr while 4 tabling is pretty atainable. Just stay away from them during the early afternoon hours on the east coast (noon-3pm) I have seen sharks in them mostly during these hours. The early weekday evenings and weekend afternoons are best and full of fishies.
