Just wondering how some of you got into being backed?
-
lol
-
I'm not backed...have no intention to ever be backed...and probably not the skill anyway....
But the most common tale is that someone looking to invest will find you if you're putting up consistently great results. Or a friend with a lot more cash than you will start you off.
For the most part, if you have to recruit someone, you're not the best candidate to invest in from the backer's perspective. -
Results, references, and facts.

Yeah i <3 me some okse in a no homo way. Social networkin is the answer in my case. I just started talking to some people about poker and asked them about coaching since they stack bundles and they said that they think I could too. But bankroll wise I was lacking so they started backing me and moved me up levels and have been working with me giving their thoughts on spots and stuff. Still waiting for the day I make it really pay off for them. Been a bit swingy and Im working on being more consistent.

let me know when u figure it out. me me me me

Pretty hard to find someones that's willing to dump a bunch of money to a rando. Pre paid visa's ftw. However bought a $50 today went to put it on for the 10 hyper and the young girl at shoppers obviously didn't swipe it correctly so im fucked till I return it tm. So maybe a credit card is a better option.

results, refs, results, refs... thats it... I used to have a stable of 6 horses and it was good for a while.. to each is own

Ok I get it I dont have sik scores or a bunch of online friends ( which I do ).....Or at least thats what your implying N82 .. I have made over 20k in 2 years playing an mtt here and there. I just cant play the volume needed to be consistent. I also have 35k in live cashes also I just have a family, So its hard to keep a bankroll when I know the money can better our life. also this post was to hear how some of the higher volume players got inot backing , not a way to down my " references or stats

I mean shouldnt someone be stalking girls in online poker forums? -
Ummm..Nat gave you a legit answer about your question and then you get all sensitive and mad at him???? He never said anything about your scores or references, just thats what you need. When posting for advice on an internet forum, leave your insecurities out of it....

Edited By: N 82 50 24 Jun 24th, 2010 at 08:13 PMI haven't looked at your stats, I'm talking about the average person looking for staking. A lot of smart stakers also won't stake someone who has a family because if the person goes on a life downswing it is generally assumed that the person will be willing to siphon money off of the stake to help out their family. This has happened numerous times with people who were, otherwise, trustworthy stakees. Lastly, there's no reason to take a chance with someone who hasn't played much when there are a ton of players out there who have a very solid tournament record and have blown their rolls on cash games or pit games -- those are generally the best players to stake assuming they are trustworthy to follow the rules.Originally Posted by wtf

Edited By: Gotskillz Jun 24th, 2010 at 07:50 PMThats pretty fucked up to say that people who have a family are untrustworthy. Its generally assumed that a person with a family will be willing to steal from a staker ? wtf I think that generalization is a tad out of line.Originally Posted by N 82 50 24

Also, LOL @ someone should be staking girls, wtf does that mean -
I'm not involved in staking, but I don't think that's out of line at all. It comes down to priorities. If your 5-year-old daughter gets diagnosed with leukemia (or insert any number of other expensive family emergencies here) and you're forced to make a choice between letting her die without treatment and stealing from your backer, that's not even a choice. You'll tell yourself that you'll pay him back, and you'll use the money. People without families run into those kind of choices far, far less frequently. It's just sound business.

I had an offer to be staked a year ago around this time as i have the time to play anyday and no family commitments, I was doing pretty well for myself playing low to midstakes and figured i didn't wanna give up half my equity to continue to just play the same stakes......the way its been going this year (don't move to bad beats) i wish i had signed up to take said deal...sigh
-
So what does a "ridicuously good" staking deal consist of? (Obv. I'm not staked)
-
Because of a different website that I run, I know a lot of the biggest online stakers and talk to them about this stuff a fair amount. This is absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, a major factor for them when deciding to stake someone. That isn't to say that someone with a family isn't stakable, but it decreases the attractiveness of the stake opportunity by a significant amount.

LOL oops -
i have alot of potential, meeeeeeeeeeeeee please, lol

Started off being staked...it was interesting to say the least. Now I play on my own roll and stake another player. I like it and hope to continue adding horses but it seems difficult to find a solid player that one can trust. Very unlikely I'd stake someone I didn't know in real life (i.e. know where they live ;) )
