  1. Currently I'm on approximately a 70k downswing (which can explain some of my freakouts at the tables lately) in MTTs. I've stopped playing a lot of MTT's lately to learn cash and its going well (thank god) but has anybody else experienced a downswing this large? I dont normally play the 200r, but I did play the 1k's and 109r frequently, along with the 109 freezeouts, stuper, etc.

ty cash games for helping me maintain my sanity.
  2. GL pulling out of it man...keep your head up.

Variance should hit you on the other side at some point soon.
  3. My biggest downswing was all of my money, my family's money, and half of Sheets n Bax's money. Quit your whining, Mike.

Just kidding, obv. $50k was mine. I can't say $70k isn't serious...but to put it in perspective it's less than 3/4 of what you crushed the Sunday Mil for in one night.
  4. I've had downswings of 24, 29 and 34k over 5500 mtts with an average buyin of 173.

70k seems a lot but I guess it's possible if you play the 1ks (I'm down 45k on them for example) and it's not that hard to lose 20k+ in the 109r..
  5. 35kish for me on 3 diff occassions this year

  6. im down 9k since last monday?

  7. if i were you....i would stop playing the rebuys, those will just get you deeper and deeper in the hole, concentrate on 100$ f/os and the 1 rebuy 1 addons, those have the lowest variance IMO,

  8. i'll let you know, still workin on mine
  9. Wow 70K. The largest downswing I can remember is 10-12K but I hardly ever play the 100R, 200R or 1K freezeouts. I also think that playing MTTs on Bodog where the fields are smaller and there are overlays helps to minimize downswings and variance.

  10. 10? my sundays cost like 7-8k
  11. its been a ruff sept as well..not a 70k month but for my br feels like 70k

  12. this is probably of no help, but do you have a group of people that you trust that can review your HHs and perhaps give you some feedback on whether it is just a bad run or perhaps your play that is suffering?

    i don't play a lot of MTTs and when i do they are small $ compared to the numbers and $ amounts you all shell out, but during my long MTT dry spells i tend to find a lot of leaks that have crept back into my game that i thought i had plugged, and new ones seem to arrive at too fast a rate as well. talking through hands really helps out my view of the game {even if I can't seem to get it right much at the tables :)}

also, since you do play the larger buy-ins and run into the same people over and over, is your style/play perhaps exploitable by them and you need to switch it up in some areas? i recall some comments from Platts that his game really took off after he talked with Annette and others about some things to switch up his game.
  13. I would like to hear SCtrojans largest downswing? maybe 100 dollars? hahah hes innnnsssssannnneee

  14. lol
  15. It'd be sweet to have a bankroll big enough to go on a downswing that size.

  16. wow that seems pretty brutal, here's my chart for almost 1000 cash prize mtts played over last 12 months (basically these are all the mtts that i've accurately tracked)

the duration of the downswings is the killer for me. the first one was around -25k but lasted a brutal 3 months. my recent downswing isn't so much about losses (the chart is pretty flat), but again about its duration (also 3 months)

abi = $211 over the full sample (played lots of 100Rs in the first half of the chart), but i've reduced this recently to around $130 due to reduced BR

  17. mmman ive had 15 and 20k downswings, i thoguht that was ridiculous but upon talking to others, i guess its pretty standard
  18. just the thought of having a 70k downswing makes me want to cry and move all my poker money to savings bonds. I don't know whre id stash my two bonds after that though.
  19. With 1K tournies becoming more prominent, I would expect downswing and upswing numbers to go up.
  20. So anyone want to open up and tell us how much actual profit they have made from online MTTs this year? The numbers should be staggering if you can sustain 20k downswings. Simply listing your ROI for 2007 would also be relevant if anyone feels like sharing.

    Thanks,
    WM

  21. Run an excel spreadsheet to test variance of your numbers. SOunds super nerdy but for 70k its worth seeing if you can statistically be considered profitable in tourneys to keep playin them.
  22. I've shared these numbers in one form or another a few times so I guess its no big deal. I've made about 200K with an ROI of 90% in online MTTs so far this year and I'm sure that's no where near the amount some of the best players have made.

  23. I've profited over a half a million this summer, bulk of it coming from 6th in EPT Barcelona and Winning the Sunday Million.....the ROI is irrelevant and would be ridiculous. As far as downswings, I think my biggest one was -20k. gl
  24. just PLAY WELL and win the million god its so easy...................
  25. "i tell you to play within your means of your bankroll and not extend, instead you go in2 hock for more"
  26. 46k
