I got a scoop for all of you: Most top players have multiple accounts so get over it. My wife plays 25/50 nl, and sometimes when shes feeling good, even higher. My brother has won tournaments. Its a fact of life so dont even think of bashing JJ for this. When there are big tourneys one of the beauties of online play is that you can enter more then one account. The chance of ending at the same table with yourself is very very unlikely. So if you must, flame away, but wake up and smell the coffee.
Thor -
lmfao gg ethics

I find it hard to come up with funds for one buy in :(

Where did you guys get this information? How would anyone know....

but wake up and smell the coffee.

So if you do end up at the same table, what are you going to do thor?
If you happen to be in the middle of a bad run costing you a decent chunk of your BR and you happen to get 2 names to the FT of a big tournament, are you going to let one of them get blinded off? -
so what do you do when both of your accts. make the same table.....? it will happen somewhere, sometime? now you are able to see 4 cards where everyone sees 2 cards and this is not unethical. if you are ok with that then you would probably be ok with chip dumping too then!
-
lol r u serious? this is the exact same situation with noah "exclusive" boekan, so dont be surprised if people get upset like they did back then
btw, thor u come off as a real jerk in this thread -
Pray you get seated to your left and all in baby!!!!
-
where is Russ G.? he's the expert on this kind a stuff.
-
anyway you slice it its horribly unethical
-
I think you can make a case for both sides. I tend to agree with Thor though. I dont have more than 200$ in any acct, so like most I can barely play 1 lol. I do agree with Thor however and I don't care if he played with 5 accts, it is still AMAZING!!

Shaniac Jr. is unconvinced.
You mean, your wife, your brother and you all sometimes play in the same tournament?
The problem is that it creates an environment where people feel they will have to play multiple accounts just to keep up. Maybe that's not a problem. Shaniac Jr. needs to think more on the issue, but like Gank, Shaniac Jr would like to live in a kindler gentler poker world, where people could just sit back light a bone and play poker without worrying how badly you are getting screwed by not enjoying the edges that others are.
However, and this much will never be disputed, if Shaniac Jr and shaniac were ever able to play in the same tournament at the same time, the rest of the field would be at a significant disadvantage, so consider how that would make you feel.
Also, could someone please explain whatever story/controversy this post comes from? JJ won the 215 on party but it was under another account (?) -
Yeah, for real.
-
jr. rules!! lol

How can anyone claim as entering a tournament on more than one account as ethical? Hell, how could anyone even consider it legal? If pros HAVE multiple accounts, fine. But if they play in the same tournament or play at the same table, it's completely wrong.
And If a lot of the top pros do that, then a lot of top pros are cheats -
If a lot of the top pros do that, then a lot of top pros are cheats
I think I would agree here -
Thanks shaniac jr, I was just going to ask the same question.. what sparked this discussion.

Thor's post brings up 2 issues, one is obvious--that lots and lots of people play every big tournament on multiple accounts and we kind of have to accept it--and the other thor wants us to gloss over, that it's fine and ethical.
Shaniac Jr is curious if someone smart out there can do a hard stats analysis of the kind of edge a good MTT player could gain by entering 2, 3 etc accounts into every major tournament. Also what such practices would do to bankroll requirements.
Shaniac Jr. would never come out and "bash" anyone for playing multiple accounts and winning on one of them, but doesn't think it's something that we have to blindly accept, the way thor makes it out. Shaniac Jr's hunch is that people who have the means to play multiple accounts in an MTT are at a significant advantage over those who take the old-fashioned route, and thinks perhaps we are justified in questioning the ethics of multiplayering.
Agaian, Shaniac Jr agrees with thor's original point, that a reality check is in order for people who are shocked that this goes on, but disagrees it is something we are obligated to accept. -
When there are big tourneys one of the beauties of online play is that you can enter more then one account
wow,grt buddy now you need two accounts to beat this game .online poker is not gonna be the same soon i guess. -
why are u referring to ur self in 3rd person?
-
Well, you have stated that it is done a lot and that you do it, but you have not said why it is right or justifiable. Where do you draw the line I wonder? Rules are that it is 1 person to a tournament. I mean, if you get placed at the same table, are you simply going to pretend you aren't there? Like playing yourself in chess right? Gimme a break. I am more than willing to hear why you think it isn't wrong, but I don't see any justifiable reason.
-
One last thought on this issue: If you, ane bel0wabove and everyone else saying 'hands off JJ' want us to accept the fact that everyone plays on multiple accounts, then you have to be willing to affirm to the rest of the poker public that this practice is just what it looks like: He who has the most/best resources, wins. If you have 3 accounts, you are going to win more often than someone on one account. Fine. But let's just say that's what it is--a challenge to get as many accounts going to get the maximum edge, just like people do their best to get the maximum edge with poketracker, pokerace, and whatever else.
To Shaniac Jr, it's still kind of lame. Like the corporatization of online poker MTTs. Golden Arches are on the way, Ukraine's 001-2020 in every tournament. Death of the small businessman. Goodbye Sunday dreams. -
Ok some answers to questions im getting asked.
1: I do not think there is alot of colluding and cheating in cash games or I can at least safely say I nor any of my friends do it and if others are doing it then they suck at it from what I can see.
2: If at same table as yourself then you have a friend takeover (ive never seen it happen)
3:I do not do this in tourneys because I cant play all those tables at the same time(I do often enter under a different name as I like to be anonomous alot) -

Of coure they have a Huge advantage as far as hoe agressive you can play knowing you're still in w/ 3 other accts. Major Edge here in smaller mtts
