I woke up today all pissed off that my 2nd job might be put on hold because of Congress so I decided to call Bill Frist.
One of his assistant's answered (clearly some fat pimply toolbag) and answered my questions for me.
I asked him the reasoning behind hiding the illegal gambling/banking piece of legislation on a bill that was obviously important and definitely going to pass. He explained that Sen. Frist's term is over in 2 months and he didn't have the "time or legal funding" to campaign for it on its own merits. He also explained that it likely would not have passed otherwise.
I asked him if this was a focus on banning sports wagering online or poker and he said it was "to help enforce what is already illegal (referring to online wagering in general)". When I explained that poker was not gambling and not a game of chance but a skill, he fumbled his words and said that he was unsure of that.
The Senator put the wording in the legislation at 1 am before they were about to break for the day/night. Not one member of congress opposed it. It is common that congressmen will refuse to vote unless certain wording is removed and this did not happen.
The bottom line is that the lobbyists for the online gaming sites simply did not do their jobs. Every lobbyist has at least one congressman in their back pocket and the fact that no one stood up to oppose this legislation addition is fairly obvious that some lobbyists were asleep at the switch.
Let it also be known that Sen. Frist is a total scumbag. His family owns some kind of hospital company and in 2005 Sen. Frist dumped all of his stock just weeks before it was to be announced that this public company was flailing. This most likely will ruin his chances of becoming the Rep. candidate in 2008. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...092301811.html explains the illegal sale and pending investigation.
Rant over. -
