I know there's a high-five thread to thelandlord for winning. I'm not really concerned with whether his play was correct, just mine.
$100 buy-in. 710 people. 5 left.
Me-480K
Rufrider-440K
Player C-340K
Player D-300K
Player E-150K
Blinds are 6K/12K w/1k ante. I'm in the big blind with AdKd. Rufrider(fairly aggressive) raises to 40K. All others fold. What's your move? -
IMO, flat call and hope you hit the flop. If you don't get three spades or A/K, fold if he bets. If he's that aggressive, he may put you in further than you'd like, especially if you are on a draw post-flop. I'm probably way too cautious on this, tho, cuz I have gone out too many times in just this type of scenario.

if he's anywhere near "fairly aggressive", im 3x'ing his raise. if he shoves im a little bummed but im almost definitely calling
-
You have to win races to win a large field tournament. Don't beat your self up over it. If you raise 3 times he may still shove, he may fold, you'll never know. If an ace or king comes for you, you wouldn't be making this post. That being said, if I have 10 10 - KK in your spot I am overshoving just like you did hoping to be called by exactly what he had... questionable call but I guess he felt like gambling - being a "slight favorite" was the BEST he could hope for and he could very easily of been crushed.
-
Since we are analyzing the hand though, it would be interesting to know what cards came out on the flop, turn, river... if we knew those then its easier to discuss various scenarios based on a smooth call or smaller raise preflop. For instance, if you raise him 3 times and he calls and the board comes Q 10 X.... you have 2 overs and a gut shot and you are first to act. If you C-bet he should fold 88 based on what your preflop raise is reprsenting.

This is a tough spot. You are both deepstacked and have all other players at the table covered by at least 100k. Here is a spot to just call and proceed cautiously for me. By shoving, you are trying to add 63k chips to a 480k chip stack. Not very necessary given the other stack sizes. If you had your Ace or King, check raise, if you miss, check fold. Only 40k chips lost instead of 440k.

Zach,
Rushstreet had easily the best response. Ak is a monster 5 handed. I can't see doing anything but shoving there except maybe making it 150K and then shoving any flop.
CONGRATS on the nice finish

5 handed AKdd?? you can't flat call imo.. you need to reraise, if he 3 bets so be it... You both have big stacks and he knows that... flat calling will just enable him to outplay you on the flop if you miss.... i'd probably bet $120-$140k to give him the picture that you're not going anywhere so he either has to fold or shove. If he shoves I probably snap call. If you win this hand you it will be damn hard to lose the tourney.

i dont care if the guy is the biggest nit ever, with 40 bbs 5 handed u need to be getting this in preflop. reraise to 140kish and call a shove. if he flats (which would obv be horrendous), i'd lead any flop for ~half my stack and call off the rest.
and yes his call is vbad imo. ur reshove isnt horrible, just ul he called and u lost the race.
