  1. About a month ago I played in a freeroll on blue sq poker to win entry into a GUKPT (Grosvenor UK poker tour) event. Payouts were something like:

    1st $2250 package
    2-4 $109 sat ticket
    5-9 $55 sat ticket
    10-18 $11 sat ticket

I finished 10-18 for an $11 sat ticket and just left it to rot for the last month.
Remembered I had it Tues n played the sat into a $109 tourney. Won that and was hoping to unreg from the $109 the following day but it wouldn't let me.

So played last night and took it down for a $2250 package to any £1000+60GUKPT event in the next six months. (First 4fig 'score')

    WHOOP! :D /brag

Now the advice. My bankroll was previously ~$3800 the deal with the site is they will either buy you into the event and ship you the remainder of the package for expenses

    OR

they will buy the package back off you for 90% (= $2025 for anyone not math-inclined)

So what would P5 do? I'm not really fussed either way just wondering, because of the peculiar scenario, what the consensus would be?
  2. GUKPT...

    I would take the money.

  3. Congrats on the score!

If it were me, I'm playing the life event. Is one of the events in a place you've never been, but would have liked to visit? I'd use it as a chance for a free vacation with a chance to win some more money.

The boost to your BR would be nice, but since this is your first 4 fig score, I'm guessing you don't play that high of buy-in events very often. Take a shot in my opinion...have some fun with it and play some live poker.

Either way though you'll probably be happy.

Can the luck continue? I'd take the shot since it started with a freeroll... GL with decision!

  6. Take Zee Money! Plain and Simple, your roll is 3800 you can make it ~6000 by taking the money! playing a $2000 tourn on a $6000 BR is terrible BR MGMT even if it did come from a freeroll, thats just me though good luck with your decision!
  7. wow soooooo tempting. selling it is clearly very negative EV. not only do you lose the 10% but also this is live AND in britain. you are clearly waaaaay +EV in this tourney (assuming you have some experience live). Tough call man i'd prob pussy out and take the money but if your comfortable financially it'd be tough to turn down the shot at some big bucks.

possible comprimise would be to play like a £500 tourney or something (after selling your seat obv).

GL either way and congrats on the score
  8.  I would play the live tourney because I think playing live is infinitely more fun. You won your seat off a freeroll basically, so enjoy yourself! Your online bankroll is fine. Have fun, enjoy yourself, and take down a nice live tourney!
  9. If it was me I play the event, pick somewhere nice tho like brighton or london, dont think going to thanet would be that much special.

Just think if you managed to luckbox your way throu the field and win it you get to play the champions event aswell and possibly win a healthy and life changing sum of money.

congrats on the score and good luck with whatever you decide.
  10. i would say play the event as well. its a life experience, and won which will leave you with lasting memories, and if you win, it can be life changing ( depending on prize pool ) if you win.

in 5 yrs from now, would that ~2k really mean that much to you??? or would you even remember it???
  11. It sounds like this is all meant to be for you. It's like a movie in the making. Go out and finish the story line by beating Ivey heads up for the title. Take it down!
  12.  Play the event for sure.
  13. 7-4 in favour of playing the event then. hmmmm. however, i dug a bit deeper and...

    From T&Cs
    • All packages must be used within 6 months of being won unless given special dispensation. After this time the package will be declared void.
    • Unwanted packages may be sold back to Blue Square Poker for cash at 90% of the total package value (subject to 6 months expiry clause above).
Trouble is the last £1060 event of the season started today and there isn't anything scheduled in the next 6 months so how can they enforce this? Surely they will need to give me the full package value since I can't be bought into an event. If I can blag that I'll take the money. If not I'll def consider playing in a new season.

    Thanks for your advice guys

  14. ya if you can find an event to play in def do it. How many opps are you going to have in the short term to take advantage of traveling to another country for free and donking it up lol jk. Def go bro.
  15. i recently won a seat to the Aruba Classic and needed the $5500 buyin...but i wasnt gonna pass up the opportunity to win $750k...so i sold some of my action...ended up selling $1600 of it...so after i bubbled, i still won $1600 and had a great experience...my advice is to play the event and sell about $1k of your action...

Also a good point. There is no chance the thought would even cross my mind.

I guess I feel that by taking the cash though and dropping that 10% I'm losing out considerably. On the other hand you're right, the bankroll boost from a normal tourney win would be a no brainer, I'm not normally throwing 1/3 of my new found bankroll at a big live tourney.

    This.

If you want to play a live tourney, find one you're priced into.

I understand (I'd be SEVERELY tempted too) but the 50% add to your BR prices you into lots more fun stuff online and off. You can still have fun playing poker with far less risk.

IMO, don't think of this as 'free money,' it's definitely real, so consider it as such.
  20. take the bank roll boost and just take a couple shots in some tournies on line or smaller live tournies.
  21. i really dont like the idea of playing smaller live tournies unless you can find ones with similar structures...bigger buyins always have great structures, while $100-$500 tournies usually have like 20-40 minute blinds...and that shit sucks compared to 1-1.5 hour blinds...Aruba had 1.5 hour blinds and the structure was amazing...now when i go play $200 buyins at the local casino, the 30 minute blinds are hell and i dont think ill ever play less than 40 minute blinds again...

see if friends and family will buy like 5% of your action each...sell like 30-50% and go for it.
