1. Ok, I'll start by saying johndough87 is a friend of mine, and most of the time his is a good player, but recently he's been telling me all these bad beat stories, i'm beginning to think he's got a leak. Your honest thoughts and opinions are more than welcome.

IMO he should have simply pushed flop. no use in thinking about it too much.

    johdough tells me I'm wrong.

I was on the phone with him during the hand, and prior to the flop he said he was pushing almost any flop....

obv he got totally lucky on river. he defended his play with this text after he hung up on me:

"He's seen me check fold 3 times in a row, there's no reason I shouldn't let him bet a small pair. I'm afraid of 4 cards on the flop. I'll take my chances against a maniac. I would have bet there vs anybody else at the table."

I think he's giving five dollar players too much credit first off for thinking the guy is paying attention to folds, also he said that that guy would have called a shove on flop. I say thats great, he has eight outs all the more reason to push.

Love to hear what you guys have to say about it, this is my first post.
  2. You'd be right. I know it's questionable to play based on buy-in/level, but in a 5$ rebuy, don't try to use level 2/3 thinking when evaluating your plays.

If you need to shove, shove, and don't be surprised when a dumbshit (priced-in?) chaser bites you in the ass. We've all had it happen, and it's not a conspiracy, nor is it 'fate.'

    Welcome to P5. We're cooler than 2+2 IMO :D
  3. With a stack that short, I'd probably fold KJo in early position preflop. If I was going to play it, I would open/shove allin. There's not much point in just raising 1/4 of your stack with a bad hand out of position. Most hands that call will be better than KJo, and you'll be playing out of position on the flop.

As it is, he needs to shove on that flop every time. What else is he waiting for? Trying to induce a bluff is a fine play, when you have enough chips to play around with. As it is, your friend has so few chips he can't be messing around... he needs to be looking for a spot to get it in and either cause his opponent to fold, or double up.

A lot of poker players will refuse to listen to the advice of others, especially when that advice is critical. It sounds like your friend doesn't want to listen to reason, and he's going to stubbornly continue to play in a manner that loses him money. You might be better off either letting him learn the hard way, or convincing him to read some books on the subject. Almost anything you pick up will tell you KJo is a terrible hand from earluy position. :)
