1. Senator Coleman,

I am in a real quandary. I am a republican. Today, I am ashamed to admit that, and this will probably be the last time that I say it. I have always voted republican, always supported President Bush and the Iraq war, pretty much supported all points republican. No more.

With the Senate attaching the online gambling bill to the Port Security bill, you have taken away my lively hood. When all is said and done, you have taken away my means to support myself and my family. I am a divorced father of two, and playing poker has allowed me to spend more time with my kids than an 8-5 job ever would.

Considering that poker is a game of skill, just like bridge, what right do you have to take away my rights to provide for my family. I understand what all of this is about, its about taxes. If you smoke, you pay taxes on cigarettes. I dont think you will find anyone that would argue which is more dangerous to the public, cigarettes or online poker. So its ok to be able to purchase something that is proven to cause cancer, but I cant sit at home and play poker? I can go visit my grandfather in the hospital because he has cancer and is too old for chemotherapy to do any good, but I cant bluff someone out of a pot online? Instead of looking to ban online poker, why didnt you find a way to regulate and tax it? Our friendly neighbors to the west (North Dakota) have the ideal situation to regulate and tax online poker. They are the only state that has a state owned bank, so all of the money could be run through them. I understand that you dont care if North Dakota reaps an extra $500,000,000 a year or more in taxes, but I would have thought you would have cared about someones personal freedom and ability to provide for their family.

I cant believe I am going to say this, but Hillary in '08
2. well said, i still can't bring myself to say yes to hillary, but maybe we can get a real conservative on the ballot. Guliani appears the best hope out of the candidates that have a reasonable hope imo. Sooooo very fustrating.
3. I dont think I could actually pull the trigger and vote for Hillary. I would probably just lay in a fetal position in a corner of my house on election day.

4. i am a republican but the moral zealots are ruining our party. whatever happened to less taxes and less government and more personal freedom? these are things the right used to stand for. but now they spend more than the democrats and i can't tell the difference anymore. think i'm voting libertarian (sp?) next time.
5. You need to add this about cigarettes

I understand that smoking cigarettes is a WIN WIN for the government

You smoke your whole life, paying the taxes for smoking and taxes at your job.

then when you turn 65 and retire it's time for the government to pay YOU the money YOU have been paying in for years

Only problem is YOU now have cancer and will die this year. WIN WIN for the government.

you paid them and they don't have to pay YOU!!!!!!!
6. Hillary won't be on the ballot so you don't have to worry about that.

But I have emailed and phone my congressmen and told them I will vote DEM down the line. First time I have voted DEM in a very long time.
7. Floppin A,

I'm sorry to hear how profoundly this passage will affect you. I am glad you wrote this letter. I am in the process of something similar. As my letters/discussions with Bill Frist and both my Republican Senator's Offices promised, promotion of this Bill would signify my departure from the Republican party.

What dissappoints me the most was his commitment to passage with as little discussion as possible.

8. It makes me laugh how they said part of it was because of familys running themselves into ruin, yet they are ok to allow vegas to keep tipping free booze down your neck to make you gamble more??

They dont half talk some shit.
9. I live in New York State and until last night I was a Republican. First Bush and now this...so I finally had my last straw.

But believe me our beloved senator Hillary Clinton would not support online gaming. She is part of the do-gooder contingent of politicians who got Grand Theft Auto down to a TEEN rating.

I may no longer be a Republican...but Hillary in '08...please god dont let that happen.

That would be the RAKE!
