  1. yesterday my mate was playin on my acc as i often let him play small stakes and i fell asleeep when he woke me up he told me he had lost $13k which i laughed at thinkin it was a0 joke. Unfortunately he was not joking, he had blown my roll playin 25/50 hu. He has now promised to pay me the money back which i find hard to beleive as he is broke but he has said he will borrow the money of his parents to pay me. Has anyone been in a similar situation and know what the law says in this type of case?

  2. my 1st 1st, Edit: Not sure if stars/FTP will be too interested in helping because you gave someone else your password and allowed him to play on your account.

    Gl getting money back man.
  3. The law? I'm no attorney, but I'm pretty sure you're S.O.L if he decides to stiff you.

You should post some of the HH in this thread. It might be entertaining.

  4. law? if hes really your "mate" then u would be understanding that people make mistakes. take him for his word that he will get the money back to you asap. where im from people don't try to use the "law" against their friends. u ever fucked up before?
  5. my first time ever playing poker, i played on my friend's true poker account. He got 50 dollars for free for winning a true poker sponsored event. I played for 20 minutes and won 15dollars and thought poker was easy. Little did I know, I would lose my friend's entire 50dollar bankroll over the course of the night. He was chill though, and now i'm able to repay him.

I also once stayed up all night playing 10-25 on ub and lost 8k of my 12k bankroll. I lost qq to a9, all the money went in on a aq3flop, turn was a 9, river A, ship a 5k pot and the tilt begins.

13K is a little different from any other 'mistake' a friend might make. After a reasonable amount of time, I'd be considering legal action if he was making very little effort to pay me back. But you should give him time. An instant repayment of $13k seems unlikely, though.

OP: what jurisdiction are you in? Are you in America? If so, then I can only be of limited assistance (and still only of limited assistance if you live in England/Wales because I'm only a student still), but it looks as though you've got very little legal back-up: you've allowed the guy to play on your account and unless you clearly defined the boundaries which he is not to cross (which I THINK would amount to burglary in some contorted way) then you effectively gave him free license to use your account as he liked.

If you're serious about a legal stance on this, my advice would be to write up a contract along the lines of "Person x shall pay me back $20 per week until the debt of $13,000 has been repaid, starting on 1st June 2009" or whatever.

In conclusion: little criminal or tortious recourse, but if you made a contract with him of that nature, you'd have something enforceable.
  7. What was the understanding between the two of you? Did you lay down any ground rules about what limits he could play?

Sounds like you learned a very expensive lesson.

Your friend is a complete loser and douche bag. You don't accidently lose a friends 13k bankroll unless you're borderline retarded.

This should be a lesson to all, don't let broke loser buddies play on your account while you take a nap.

  10. Why is someone else playing on your account anyway? I wish a top pro was my "mate" so I could let them play around on my account. You did a foolish thing and it cost you 13k.

Yeah, I think he's got this much. He asked a specific question, and what you're peddling is particularly helpful.
  12. sucks to hear this, i'm sure he'll pay you back if he's your friend.

next time transfer him some money rather than giving out your pw
  13. Well, its basically your own fault for letting him on your account. This was a really poor decision on your part. GG 13k

  14. Your own fault... you wont get the $$$ back, its more likely stars will ban you if you tell them the story you told us

i meant what i said. anyone who i would trust to let play on my account, would have to be a very good friend of mine. and i doubt id be looking for legal recourse if he fucked up. id work something out with him and get my money back as soon as he could. friends > money.
  16. dont give any1 your shit, well some 1 knows mine but they have their own millions and i trust them 101% soooo..... apart from tht dont give any1 nothing, keep your mind at rest

anyway he had that happen to him and he contacted the fbi and they got armed forces on it he got his cash back
  17. Holy F'n shit! He went up stakes after each losing session then to only get it all in with the best of it with a $14k pot only to get sucked out on the river. OUCH.

    GL man.
  18. I would say your mate would not be legally responsible. You gave him permission to play and even if you specified an amount hard to prove if its just your word. Hope he pays you back cause he prob doesnt have too legally. Also, you should hope his parents are rich cause 13 K is a lot to borrow specically if he was broke before.

Sounds like your friend has a serious gambling problem.

    what site shows this again?
  20. i would definitely draw up a short contract stating that he owes you 13k (as a loan you gave him) and he will pay you back some trivial amount like 20 bucks a week. this way he is on record with signature saying he OWES you money, doesn't matter how it came to pass as long as he acknowledges it. you may then have some recourse if you ever need to go to small claims court to get some of it back. plus you can always use the contract to motivate your friend to pay you back. don't expect a broke guy to come up with 13k overnight.

wow, you really think someone who goes on to play 25/50 in your account while you're asleep is a friend? Risking a bunch of someone else's money without them even knowing is the new true meaning of friendship imo
  22. wow this would put me on life tilt

  23. Probably liked to impress his buddy by letting him see his BR. Anybody else would have the sense to just transfer the guy 50 bucks....

ur all some selfish fucks. too concerned with ur own $ to realize that this kid has an obvious gambling problem. doubt there was any malicious intent at all. if he were my friend id be understanding enough to realize this. dont let people play cash on your account when u have enough money in there to affect your livelihood
  25. I call bullshit on this entire thread...
  26. Lukaluka - good idea, I wonder where I'd seen that posted already...

Grip - I must admit that I didn't look at it from the position of the guy having a gambling problem. That is a very good point and deserves recognition, but the main issue here is the loss of the money. It doesn't appear as though there was any malicious intent at all, you're right, but that doesn't mean that he shouldn't be held responsible for it.

100% agree. work something out with the kid to get your money back. long term payment plan or something of that matter.
  28. Looking at tableratings.com and watching a couple of the hands makes this post even funnier. Def tranfer money to your buddy instead of giving him access to your whole br. This is even worse then giving someone your debit card and saying only spend $10 and they go crazy for $2000. At least then you could pursue legal action.
  29. I think it's extremely sad that anybody has found this breach of trust in any way funny. Somebody has just lost a significant amount of money (not without fault, but not through his actions alone) and this is in some way amusing? Walk a mile in his shoes, I wonder how funny that would be.

Cue response of "well I'd never be that naive". Bully for you.
  30. and I thought that I was having a bad day :(
