I have a real world job that I go to 40 hours a week. I live with my girlfriend who doesn't really enjoy poker or understand it, so my playing time is very limited. I don't play full time professionally at all, but I feel like I have the skill to play to supplement my regular income. Since I can't play frequently, I feel forced into playing HU SNGs and HU Cash to make my money. I have to resort to having a monetary amount goal per day instead of being able to grind a certain number of hours a week. First off, are HU super turbo SNGs beatable with rake? I do not use rakeback either. How difficult is it to make the switch from MTTs and SNGs to cash? I feel like cash games give me the best chance to make maximum money with the time that I am able to provide to working on my game and my bankroll. I want to be able to make more money than what I make at my job and an extra $100 or $200 per day is sufficient to go along with the money I already make at my job. I am also an avid golfer who is trying to find a way to play on the mini tours, but I don't have sponsors ad must play on my own dollar. How long and difficult will it be to make 20kish to fund my dream. No need for flaming, I am only looking for positive help and thoughts that can help me reach my goal. Thank you very much in advance.

Cashgames need a lot of work on the game and to make 100-200$ a day is nearly impossible if you don´t start at high limits... Let´s say you play NL50 and would maintan 6bbs/100 hands(which would be a really good) you need to grind 5k hands a day to make 150$....
So without offense, its pretty unlikely to achieve this with a job and golf and wife etc. -
I understand what you're saying.....but $100 extra per day can't be that diffcult.....so if it's that impossible to do it playing cash, what are my best options? what would you do if you were trying to do what I'm doing? I have a decent enough roll not to have to grind micro stakes.

depends on how many hrs you want to put in and how many tables you feel comfortable playing. maybe multi tabling a bunch of 6,9,18 man turbo sngs might be the way to go.
-
do you say this due to high varience in HU games and the inability to keep up large stats on a consistant basis, like what the first person said? I can play 2-3 tables at a time, but don't have much experience with this.....would 2-3 tabling HU SNGs be almost like the same thing? would my goal be attainable?

playing HU cash is tough. especially at the levels you would need to play to attain your goals. you will find that even the 50nl HU grinders are solid players. if youre playing HU its harder to play more tables. if you can start learning to multi table 6-max cash you might find that you have better results. if you can maintain a 4bb/100 hands at a 6 max table and you can learn to play 6 or 8 of them at a time i think you would be a bit more successful.
-
What about HU SNGs? Also, I play alot of PLO and PLO H/L, so varience might be more of an issue as well, but people know how to play these games at a much lower level than NLHE....if you had a 3kish roll and you wanted to reach this goal, what would you do? Anyone that feels like replying, please feel free to do so.....more insight would be much appreciated!!

i mean i guess i would just play whatever game you are best at and whatever game you are rolled for and move up accordingly. if you are a winning player then it shouldnt matter what you play as you will be able to win and build the roll up. just dont try and rush anything. when you rush it you will not play your best game and ultimately end up giving away a lot of profit

I would download table ninja and play the 18-27 mttsngs...i just got table ninja and its amazing how easy it is to play 6+ tables

$100 a day is $36,500 a year if you played everyday. So do you think it is really that easy to make that kind of money in your sparetime? People work very hard on their games and don't make that. I'm not hating or flaming but some people think that poker is easy money and you can just make money as you please. Poker is a tough game and although you can make decent side money you have to be realistic.

I agree, I guess that's why I posted about it.....I play anywhere from $10-$100 SNGs, so I guess I'm just wondering if it is sustainable to do....I just want to be able to grind out the most consistant results I can and wanted to know what my chances were and what might be the best route to my goal - thanks for all the input! I appreciate it all, esp. hearing from people with results to back it up

with the limited amount of time you have, I really don't know. Is your girlfriend ugly?

Play 6 max cash a lot and get a shitload of rakeback
It´s not impossible but the guys who make this sort of money play NL100 or up and there are rarely players who make more than 5bbs/100.. It needs a lot of work and passion for this game and especially a lot of volume.Originally Posted by keithfolds2

If you work and have a wife etc, it´s not a goal which is easy to reach/in any way to reach to be honest
