  1. Let me first say that in no way do I support the ban on internet gambling as I dont think its the governments business to regulate this type of activity. I have also been a registered democrat for 11 years as my views just fit better with the democratic party and because I want a say so in the primarys and live in a state where independents dont get a say so in those elections, it is important for me to have that affiliation. I cant say for sure that the core of the Port Security bill really will do anything to improve our safety when it comes to securing our ports although from what I have read, there really is some substance behind bill which will help secure our ports. I wont claim to be an expert on that subject so lets just assume for a minute that part of the overall resolution is legit and will make us all safer.

Now, the house voted several months ago by a huge majority from both sides of the isle to pass the ban on internet gambling bill. I dont like it, I dont support it, but thats the facts. The Senate on the other hand never really took up this legislation however politics being politics, the majority leader of the Senate, Mr Fucking Frist, made a really good play in getting what he wanted by attaching this internet gambling bill to the port security bill. It was kind of like a stop and go, he just called last week when the DOD bill came up and decided not to attach this legislation only to then go all in and attach it to the Port bill which is getting support from both parties and both houses of congress.

So now I ask members of this community (particularly those of us living in the US) if they really would want to prevent this port legislation from passing (assuming that there is substance behind thte port security provisions) just to protect the on-line poker industry? I really dont think the House can be blamed for letting this legislation pass tonight and while I differ with many of Rep. Peter Kings views, he did say something that I just cant agrue with. The House passed this Internet bill a while back, both sides of the house strongly support the Port Security bill, so if the Senate wants to include the Internet Gambling legislation with the Port Security measures, why should the House object? That is the way the politcal system in our countrys works and has worked for a long time.

Now I ask one more thing, how many of you who are US Citizens who were over 18 two years ago voted? What about four years ago, six years ago, ect For some reason I doubt that those who didnt will respond but that was the time to voice your opinion. This country and my state of Florida has seen a tremendous shift to the right over the past 12 years which has been very disturbing to me. I think the younger generation which is more liberal and likely to side with democratic values dont vote while the conservative Christian Right has really mobilized their support of the Republican party by making sure their supporters go out and vote.

The moral to this post is, its great that everyone in this community is so passionate about this issue however I only hope that you realize that the problems with our government that allowed this issue to pass is much bigger than some legislators wanting to go after the on-ling gaming industry and when its time to vote this November and two years from November and four from November and so on, you all make sure your voices are heard and make your vote count.

  3. I voted, and I voted Republican. Guess I'm part to blame here, but I won't soon be making that mistake again (the Republican part, not the voting)
  4. A longer title to this post is needed.
  5. Great Post, TAmpa!
  6. I'm all for port security, but what they are trying to do is just wrong. It's incredibly back-handed to try to attach a provision about online gambling to a bill that has absolutely nothing to do with it. The process of creating law needs to be revised if this is what routinely takes place in Congress.... makes me want to move to Canada... and I hate Canada.

And the arguments the Republicans are using to get this thing passed are ridiculous. "Click your mouse, lose your house"???? Are you fucking kidding me... Try study, analyze, and practice for over a year and pay for college. If this shit passes I might not be able to pay for my next 3 years of college.... Thanks a lot. GFY, Congress.
  7. Must suck being a democrat. Had to stop reading right after seeing that....
