I understand you folks around here discuss teh pokers. I would kindly appreciate some backround into this game called razz.
Started out as a young boy playing 5 card draw and 7 card stud and rummy for quarters, I understand basic strat and all that of pokers.
I would google, but why not come ask the best?
Thank you kindly for your time and advice. -
Don't play razz much but the players I play in the horse tournies on Tilt are terrible- here's a few tips I guess. Starting hand strength is really important- 632 low starting hand is alot better than 654. But anything 6 high is worth playing. 7 and 2 really low cards are worth playing too obv it matters what other people's door card is. Note that people's paired cards make your hand more a bit stronger. Don't be tempted to defend a bring in even though you might start off with say a3k, still muck it. That's pretty much all I can think of- early street razz is easy and solid foundation will prob your best bet as a beginner. Lots of people spew early streets and play bad starting hands I don't see the point if you got a terribad hand all you'll be doing is chasing and you won't fool anyone.

When I mean people's paired cards make your hand stronger I obv mean like you have 523 and theres a few 2s and 3s out you're stronger cus less likely you pair.
Oh ya I just thought of something else- I see alot of people 3-betting and capping 3rd and 4th street that's kind of stupid imo unless someone thinks they playing stud high or if you're squeezing a dummy who's calling with their queen bringin haha- most hands that are worth playing pretty much flip with each other on 3rd street so no edge there... All you are doing by pumping the pot up early is making it harder to get away from it when things get bad. Start raising 5th+ for value as a general guideline. -
Str8's & flushes donot count against your hands. The nuts is [5,4,3,2,A]. You count your low from the highest number back down to the lowest. Example:
7632A is worst than 7432A
8542A is worst than 8632A
You need to follow the advice of the litlebullet on betting & be a little careful on 6th & 7th street when the opponent catches cards close to your low cards that could make a hand that bests your board. Board cards are very important when evaluating the strength of the opponents hands.
Try never to begin with the 4th best hand in a multi-way situation (unless you are well disguised and all your cards are paired on board & you have [2,A] in the hold). On 3rd & 4th street, tighten up when you are OOP. When you are playing online, don't check the "auto-fold" button when the bring with [face card] is on your left & you have a mediocre hand. You should go for a steal on 3rd if you are HU & your board beats the bring in.
Even when your board pairs your very good hold cards [2,A]5, A, 2 & your opponent catches bad; you should continue to put pressure because he will have a hard time calling with [8,7,6]-low; [9,7,6]-low; [T,7,6]-low. Even though you have two pair; you have decent chance to out draw his bad lows. If you are called down by a bad player; take a note on him/her because he will be the focus of your attempts to chip-up. Stationy players never fold when they think they have any chance to outdraw you.
[A ] is always the lowest card, but it doesn't make you an unbeatable hand.
Don't be the chaser. If you are very short & in position; tey to get all-in and see all the cards to increase your chances of surviving with some chips. If you are short you have almost no chance of winning without chipping up. -
