Hello, this question prompted me to become a member of this site.
So I live in the US. I looked into opening a canadian bank account given the latest brouhaha. Found this page on HSBC http://www.hsbc.ca/hsbc/personal_en/...n-hsbc-account
It says that any non-Canadian resident can open an account as long as HSBC has a presence in your country. So I called and verified. I told them my situation and they said no problem.
Easiest way to do it is to visit a canadian HSBC branch and it'll take 20 minutes. They also offer online banking. You can also open an account remotely, but it takes several weeks.
I live fairly close to Canada, so I could just drive up there on the weekends, play online, deposit and withdraw from the HSBC Canada account and never break any US laws since I'm not IN the US while playing. Does that sound correct? Are there any legal issues I should be wary of before I do this?
Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide. -
Sounds good to me. Why do you need to actually drive to Canada to play though? Couldn't you just transfer the money through the Canadian bank and then play from home? It's not illegal to play online poker, it's just illegal to transfer money, right? So if you figure out how to transfer the money, it shouldn't matter where you play.

Thanks for the reply. Well, I'd actually drive to canada since I live in Seattle, WA. Would be breaking the WA state law if I don't drive to canada on the weekends.
Just wanting to make sure there is no way anybody would have a case against me for doing what I like to do. -
Exactly. I said in another post that this might be a solution. I have Bank accounts in the US and in France for Business. I do all of the banking via the internet, from Canada.
If Tracing is a concern, do some research on Anonymous Proxies. It is pretty easy to "Surf" using a proxy, and if you do your homework, you can actually find proxies to use from places like Educational facilities, government branches...you can even find proxies for the FBI...it would be pretty funny if the FBI was caught Transferring Money into their poker account wouldn't it.
Google "Anonymous" proxies and check out http://kickme.to/battlezone to possibly find some to use. -
Heres your problem fulltiltfan: In order to convince Neteller you are a Canadian citizen, you have to show them proof of your residency in the form of a utility bill at an actual canadien address. I know this because I called Neteller this morning and asked the guy what I would have to do. It turns out Neteller's call center is located in Canada and this guy was very helpful.

So, having the canadian bank account is just one step to having a legitimate Neteller account. You must have have a canadien residency and proof of it in the form of a current utility bill.

Good luck man-
