  3. Me personally, I paid rent. I had been on uenployment, and when congress let it lapse, I got my biggest score three days earlier. Big fella lookin out.

My great, great, great, great grandfather, John J. Cozad, founded Cozad, Nebraska on poker winnings. He mostly played Faro, and in the 1800s once won more than $60,000 during a single session on a gambling train. I guess you gambled on riverboats and trains back then. Anyway, several trains were ordered not to play Faro when he was on board. He ended up leaving Cozad, eventually ending up in NJ, purchasing much of what is now the Boardwalk, also with poker winnings (or the money he made selling the land he bought with poker winnings....more likely). But, for development, he was forced to sell his land, to create what is now much of the AC strip. Good for him. I've won $7k in 18 months in the 2000s, and he bagged $60k during a single session on a train in Nebraska in the 1800s. A lot of times I don't think I should tell this story....but I find it interesting. And...I've wondered if there is a Poker Hall of Fame anywhere...and if he's in it or could be......

  6. I paid off $40,000+ in student loans. I hadn't ever made a payment on them for 3+ years so they went into default... then after my big score I made my first and last payment. That felt good.

  19. This isn't poker per se, but gambling winning none-the-less

I had been broke and my car was in hawk (yes I pawned my car). My friends and I had a trip planned to Florida for about six months and the week before we left, I didn't have enough cash to go. I did something stupid. I took my car to a title loan place. I knew it was stupid, but I knew I had a paycheck waiting for me to get it out once we got back from vacation. Well, I didn't. I was running late, they were threatening to repo my car. I went to the bar and played cards with some friends. Once I got nice and drunk, I thought "screw it". I have $120 to my name, I don't have enough to pay my car. I have $20 for drinks and $100 for gambling with.

I woke up the next day with a monster hangover. I kept thinking to myself "oh shit, I went to the Casino, how much did I lose?" I finally got the courage to look in my wallet. Sweet, I had $600 dollars, I had a good night. I was happy, I could pay off my car. I then picked my pants off the floor, huh, somethings in my pocket. I pulled out a wad of cash. What! There is $1100 in here. Then I checked my other pocket. I found another $700 and two $100 casino chips.

I remembered somewhat of what happened. First I played some 3 card poker and promptly hit a straight flush, pays 40 to 1 ( I think) on the bonus, had my luck there for a while and then wondered off to the slots. I remember hitting one of them for $500 and I believe I hit some others for some good money.

I promptly went to the pawn shop and got my Cymbals and other drum equipment and a couple watches out of pawn. Then drove to the title loan place to pay off my car. I was so relieved. This was one of the few times a bad idea paid off.

I then spent some money on treating my friends to drinks. Bought a few new clothes and some games for my Xbox 360.

  20. Was not my choice. Worst decision ever. That car was pretty tight though.

LOL, yes this was a "wife" choice. That wife is no longer the wife.
