I haven't used World Sports Exchange to bet in a long time, but I still log on to look at odds... obviously, they still have my email address, and today I got this:
Dear World Sports Exchange Client:
World Poker Exchange is about to turn the online poker industry on its head. Starting today, we'll be completely eliminating the rake from the real-money games in our poker room, regardless of table limit or game type. This makes World Poker Exchange the world's only venue where it's completely free to play poker-and yes, that includes tournament play as well.
The house rake is poker's silent killer, and depending on how much you play you could be losing hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month. Use our handy rake calculator to see how much money you've been leaving on the table.
To start receiving the benefits of No Rake Poker, just sit down and start playing. If you have a World Sports Exchange account, you already have a poker account as well.
Each week, we will simply tabulate the total amount of rake that you contributed (including tournament fees), and return 100% of that amount to your account. You can transfer funds seamlessly between your sportsbook and poker accounts at any time.
We believe poker should be a fun, free service available to all our customers, rather than a means to "rake" them over the coals. With the advent of No Rake Poker, World Poker Exchange is now the only place where it truly pays to play.
Best Regards,
World Sports Exchange
wsex.com
Looks like they expect to simply get people to the site, which will increase their sportsbetting and blackjack and other things. I haven't seen anyone mention this site on p5 before. Anyone ever play poker there?
</A> -
Firstly why are the first 2 links to some site called tommy usa or something?
and secondly...Do you honestly expect anyone to be dumb enought to click a link that blatantly says:
www.wSEX.com -
"to click a link that blatantly says:
www.wSEX.com"
w = world
s = sports
ex = exchange.
wsex.com -
Wow, if this isn't bogus or simply trash, that would really be something.
'No Rake Poker', I believe that concept was being pushed by that guy from 2 years ago at the WSOP, from 'the crew'.. i can't believe I'm not remembering his name... anyway, there's real potential there, if it's done right... I wonder if it will take off.
Anyone tried it? -
Ah yes, mighty google--Dutch Boyd! But he never really got it off the ground..
-
It is legit and I know wsex.com pays out what they owe from when i used to bet sports.
They would send check overnight to me whenever i asked.
Should be interesting to see how it works out.
They claim to make $$ off everything else so this tactic will be used to drive more traffic to their site.
This site was profiled on 60 minutes several years ago when the offshore gambling thing started to pick up steam. -
This site is legit...It was the first site I started playing 0.25/0.50 limit on when I started playing because I had a sportsbook account there...They had a smallish following that slowly went away and the last time I logged on here they barely had 200 people playing...Interesting to see if this works for them...
-
I really hope this takes off. I can't imagine how many online players are losing or break even because of the rake.
-
Nova, how long ago was it that you first started playing there?
I am looking at their site & poker page, and it certainly looks legit--I am definately d/ling it & taking a good look.
Any idea why word of mouth alone hasn't sent their player base through the roof?
(edit: okay I'm a fool--this change just happened yesterday, so as it turns out, we ARE the word of mouth!! lol..) -
Not a whole lot of players but enough to find a game. You probably will get to know everyone at your table. They pay out rake at 100% once a week and seperate it so you can actually see how much you are saving. You find that in the cashier tab. I too keep some of my gaming funds in WSEX so you auto. have an account in the poker room. Just don't play no real reason to until now!
-
LOL they have by far the funniest poker commercials I have EVER seen, funnier than pokerroom's & party's..
take a look;
http://www.wsex.com/poker/commercials.html
BOTH are hilarious!!
btw, their stand alone poker site is @:
http://worldpx.com/
I have no idea why they wouldn't have tons of players... is the software bad? Well, i'm about to find out, this is too good to ignore. :) -
MrH I would say that I started screwing around there during the end of 2002 when I was testing this "poker thing" out...Like I said they had a decent following and by decent I mean like 1000 people or so...It was enough to find pretty much any low stakes game up to 5-10 limit and their tourneys usually had about 70-100 people...I then started to get more serious and found my way onto party and UB and didn't play there that much...I maybe went back a few years later when I had money in my sportsbook account and saw that they barely had like 200 or so people on the site...I guess there really is no "word of mouth" because there really aren't any players...
-
I downloaded the site and It looks like NL, sngs, and mtts still pay but limit doesn't.
-
Theres over a 1000 playing right now..gonna trya 50 dollar freeroll thats coming up
-
There is rake...its just refunded once a week.
-
Anyone have a BONUS sign up CODE?
-
Theres an automatic 20 percent initial deposit bonus up to 100 bonus dollars
-
Sorry on the Tommy-usa thing. I got the email at my tommy-usa.com email address, I did a copy and paste, no reason to think that would happen.
-
Not only that, but it looks like you get a free DVD in the mail, too... & they pay shipping?!?
This site is the NUTZ! ;)
(Deposit bonus is based on 15 fpps per dollar, and although the fpps would take a very long time to accumulate by ring games, they are like pstars in that you get 5 per dollar tourny fee.... but the more important thing is that they even GIVE U FPPs, lol.. remember, all rake is refunded once per week, so they are basically PAYING YOU to play there.. I can't believe there aren't 1,000,000 players there, wow!!) -
I think there probably WILL be a lotta players soon once this gets around.
-
MuckMe, I have just done some research, and bonus codes are no more... I just chatted with support, and it appears that the change over to no rake happened in the last 48 hours!!!!
They use to be a raked site for years, and thus had an affiliate program, (hence the bonus codes), but no longer.
Wow, this is so cool... and the software is not clunky or frustrating, its kinda slick. So for all the bonus whores out there (myself included), I believe your dream has just come true, lol... infinite bonus, at a 'clearance' rate like no other! :)
(edit: duh! of course it happened in the last 48hrs... LegFuJ wrote up there that he got that e-mail today, and the e-mail mentions the change just happening, lol...) -
Sounds great but anyone notice they said "refund the rake to your account". I can see this getting twisted in the future. If it is no rake don't charge it. Plus when you cash out you have to wait for the rake to comeback I suppose, which keeps your money in the system even longer. I LOVE the idea, but after the whole "bonus $50" scam at Noble, I am skeptical ofmost of these sites "free" promos.

Actually the concept of getting the money back is psychologically very compelling & for marketing purposes, pure genius. They have a 'calculator' on their website & software which allows you to 'calculate' (estimate) just how much you end up saving...
It's funny, actually, because I remember reading Dutch Boyd's "business model" plan on this, (i still have the word document, i believe), and he decribes this exact same thing. It just goes to show how insidious (read: 'subtle' more than 'treacherous') a thing like rake is, because when players play poker, they don't hand over a dollar to sit, or a dollar every 15 min., no, they just get a little less of every pot won, so they simply don't 'feel it'. So if these guys here were to simply eliminate the rake (assuming that is easily done with the software client they use), players wouldn't 'feel' the savings. Just as they don't feel the rake while they play, they wouldn't feel the benefit of not being raked... so by doing it this way, when the money gets dropped into your account (every week is an ideal time frame for this effect), people feel the 'reward' aspect of the psychology of no rake... it's quite brilliant..
I can just imagine the corporate assassins at all the big name (poker-only) sites gearing up, lol... I wish I could have been a fly on the wall in the room these people discussed their new pokerroom model... "Bodog is getting more & more popular, their sports betting is seeing bigger & bigger profits", "What can we do? They are marketing geniuses over there!" .. "Umm, boss?".. "What is it Smithers!!" , "Why don't we just eliminate the rake--we have nothing to lose"... "Mwwahahahahaha"!!! hehe.. -
If you know enough about rake then you know enough to "feel" it without themn sending it back to you. There are better ways to let you know your savings than that eg rake savings statement. So...Fishy still IMO

someone mentioned to me that there had been rummers that this site had bots in the past.
I would imagine that they do employ either bots or shills. I wont be playing to find out. -
I'm not sure what a "rummer" is, but...
Anyone that is familiar with the history of online sports betting will know WSEX is a pioneer of online gambling, and was one of the first (if not THE first) to set up a successful offshore gambling site operating primarily online. They basically invented ideas like ultra low-juice, and live betting. They had the problems typical of a first-mover in a new market, and saw market share lost as more and more players entered. However, I would completely trust their poker room, and may think about depositing with this new "no-rake" concept.
Like Calvin from Bodog, the founders were very sucessful businessman in the prior lives, and run their operation as such. -
H - thanks for the info.
The doubters are probably right you guys shouldn't join.
Their is something fishy about it.
I tell you what after I play for a few months I will report back to you all.

Not to mention the interest they make on everyone's rake while they are holding it for a week.
