I've had a quick scan and haven't found anything on the subject yet, so..
Given that, as far as I understand, Google is now redirecting Chinese internet traffic through Hong Kong, and from when I was there during the Beijing Olympics, I know that gambling related sites of all kinds were censored - what implications would it have if it is the case that censorship of sites is now lifted?
From what I can tell it still seems uncertain what the outcome of the change is, but surely it's entirely possible that if China is now unrestricted in their internet access, this may enlighten the Chinese market to the world of poker.
It would seem from Lee Jones article "Don't fear Chinese Gold-Miners" (link below) that China can already access Poker sites. The Chinese love to gamble and play with cards and dice, and Fortune and luck is a huge part of their way of life. So, as Lee states, China accounts for 20% of the world's population, and if the ever expanding middle class with their growing disposable income somehow stumbles across online poker, could this be the beginnings of the next poker boom?

Sure

It don't matter since China's government will continue banning online gambling sites and bunch of other stuff and give 20 year prison sentences for those who break the law.
-
How are these "Chinese Gold-Miners" managing it then? Would they have to reroute IP?

Currently I am in Bahrain, where the pokerstars website is blocked, but I can still use Pokerstars client. -
This is a broad and uneducated generalization. The government and powers that be in China turn a blind eye to many things, especially if those things are profitable to them. Look at the economic change over the last 15 years as they have begun to turn over goverment business to private enterprise, if they could get an idea of the kind of money they could make regulating legalized online gambling, I guarantee they would consider it.

Aren't google pulling out of China completely? So from my understanding the interwebz will still be censored in China on all other search engines and Google won't even be accessible. So I dont think it changes (in fact it gets worse).
-
Is this the latest? I havent had the news on since yesterday.
-
Surely then the poker sites would have latched onto this. For them breaking the Chinese market truly would be the holy grail.
-
There is no way in hell that China will have unrestricted internet.
-
False, you're assuming way too much is happening based off this. There will be/is little (hopeful case) to no effect (much more likely) on what sites can/cannot be accessed in China.
