  1. idk why im starting this thread (or restarting if one was already made) but sometime when im playing i think, whats a normal tip? i usually give 1-3$ if pot in less than 100 and like 5$ if pots over, but i remember once i hit a 600$ pot in ac and i gave a 20$ tip and then once the dealer was moved to next table he tapped me on the back and thanked me like it was the biggest he ever got. i thought it was normal for that size, idk. what about you guys? what are tips like for dealers at a 5/10 table i would think more but maybe not. just bored here lol
  2. sometimes when i get to a table and i sense there are some sharks lurking i will tip like 20 bucks so everyone pretty much thinks im a huge fish ainec

oh and prepare to be flamed bro... pretty sure these threads are frowned upon :.

i don't tip based on the size of the pot...me winning a big pot has nothingt o do with the dealer...

i tip based on the competency of the dealer. i tip good dealers well, and poor dealers poorly.

Gags30 is an instructor at PocketFives Training . To get more of his advice and to watch his training videos, click here.

  4. 5 bucks at 5/10 limit for a hand... and one time prolly like 12 bucks to even off my stack when i was leaving.
  5. i am a dealer and I will say this, Gags is right and the dealers should be paid on there competence, they have no control over your hand or what is coming out. That being said 1-3 $ is fine, and the occasional 5 is great. Trust me the dealers love big tips, they are far and few between. We are depending on others to pay our bills out of gratitude, so anytime someone over tips it should be greatly appreciated. (they shouldn't single you out cause the dealer doesn't want to make any of the other tippers feel less appreciated)

As for the most I have tipped, I think i threw 75 to a dealer at a home game, I was drunk and flopped quads and told the dealers I would give him that if the donkey paid me off. (said it to try and get the donkey to pay me off, I bet 400 into a 200 dollar pot on the river and some how got paid off super light. Never seen the kid since....sigh)

As for the most I have ever been tipped, I have received a hundo on a few occasions and chopped the pot with 1 cat (wont mention but it made my night)

    Bottom line.......what Gags said
  6. Most I ever tipped was $10 in a huge 30/60 pot while drunk at Bellagio. The pot was well over $2000 and might have been over $2500. And all I had was a pair of kings on a Q high board, sick insane action. Once I donked the river after the action on turn was bet, raise, someone calls, and I called, and I get raised again and overcalled again, I thought I was for sure toast, but nope!
  7. Biggest was 50€ in a 1600€ pot at NL 1/1.
AK3 on flop, he had AK, i had AA

  8. i once tipped the dealer about 150 bucks due to the fact i was out of town at a casino never played at she was smoking hot i was playing 5-10 up enough for the trip it didnt matter so when she delt at my table the first decent pot i won when she pushed me the pot i raked in half of it and pushed her the other half... didnt get laid though so wasnt worth it.

No offense guy, but if she is smoking hot then i doubt she is whoring herself out for 150 bucks, i'm just saying......playing 5/10.......first multi way pot over 2k, take out what you put in and give her the rest....that may work.

    or not

This cant be good. I mean with the rake, and you tipping 5$ a hand how can you show any profit?

  11. At most casinos, don't dealers have to pool their tips? Which makes tipping the better dealers more impossible since they all chop it.
  12. No, most keep thir own. I can only think of one off the top of my head that pools.....Foxwoods

Simple, have a win raie of more than 1BB/hour. If your not winning that than you are grinding too much, Burger King pays more.

Dont get me wrong, anyone that watches every dollar knows that tipping is just a waste and I am NOT saying you should tip 5, but if wants to it should be none of your business.

I will go on record as saying "2 dollars is fine no matter how big the pot is if the dealer is good."

Mostly this, except pot size sorta matters even tho it shouldnt.... but no one tips like $1 on a 1k pot or anything but going like $20 is overboard...just use your judgment

But yeah tip on dealer competency for surrrre...theres so many bad dealers out there that I tip less hoping they get discouraged and either improve or find a different line of work when they see their coworkers making more tips because theyre better

  14. $30..i hit a royal for $500 and won about $40 or $50 from the pot..i just called a guy that bet to me on the river cuz i knew i was getting paid $500 and he only had about $40 behind so i didnt want to be a huge dick....but if he had a nice stack i was gonna fuck his world up
  15. TBH I rarely tip at casinos. Dealers pool their tips in Vancouver which is a pile of shit and gives no incentive for the dealers to do a good job. So pretty much if Dave the good dealer deals me a miracle river and I win a massive pot, any tip I give him is actually only .000001% in his pocket. The rest is divided up by the dealers who dont speak english and misdeal every other hand. When Im in Vegas Im more inclined to tip because the dealers actually work hard so they can get decent tips. Bottom line, something needs to be done in Canada, its a fuckin joke.
  16. I came in 2nd in a tourney (which was won by Potter-recent PS online champ) and won about $11k. Tipped $200. Best story at a NL table was after I won about $150 pot when opponent mucked on river, the villian stated, "At least give the dealer a tip for that 4 outer." Thinking i hit a str8, I told him, "I am not tipping when it wasnt the cards. It was all me and my bullshit!" Even got a good laugh from the dealer with the rest of the table. I do tip when I play but normally if it hits at least $20 at a $1/2. Normally $1 per $20-$40.
  17. Didnt read the whole thread, I was a bartender all thru college, so i tend to tip larger than most. But the major component to this question is how often you play. I play big cash games a couple times a year, and when i say big, 5-10 and a lil bigger is the biggest i go, so im not a big timer. But if you play as a career, 5 dys a week, its obvious you have to tightly monitor your tipping. Back to the original post, I tip exactly what he does, those numbers are very similar to mine. But u cant tip like that if you are playing as a career, and good dealer bad dealer, you never know there personal situation, so as long as they come across as good people, and try to take control, I tip them based on that.

that was the biggest tip i ca remember giving... normal was a buck or two per pot if it went to the river and whatever straggler whites i might have at the end of the night.
  19. I once tipped $4 after losing a $17k pot at 10/25 nl at borgata. JJ < 66 in 3b pot on J6698 board :( Was too pissed after losing and whites didn't play so just gave em to the dealer! Prob biggest I ever tipped tbh, I generally just stick to $1 per hand and occasionally $2 or $3 if the dealer is doing an excellent job or if the pots over $5k or something (since bigger pots usually take longer).

its good to see that some take this into consideration
  21. Playing 5/10 at the wynn i won a 9k pot and tipped 20 bucks.

But usually just keep it to a dollar maybe 2 if im feeling generous, obv will go up a few bucks if the pot is decent sized.
  22. I used to over tip, like 5-6 dollars every hand I would win. Then my backer yelled at me and said to start following my jewish roots and give them less. So now I will give 1-2 dollars when I win a hand. But I am starting to think that maybe its better to just not tip until the dealer is leaving then decide based on your profit since the dealer has sat down. It sucks to win a hand tip, then end up with less money once the dealer leaves then you had when he started. I mean I know its not his fault for what cards come or if I lose money but I dont wanna be tipping if I am not profitting in the first place.

Edit: For the biggest tip I gave, I hit the bad beat jackpot at Commerce Casino, I had the winning hand for 4400 and I believe I gave the floor 100 and the dealer 300.

  23. nice comments, i agree with most, including some who said depends on how dealer handles himself and if hes good or not, the dealer i tipped 20 in was at 1/2nl in ac for a 3way 600 pot that i got lucky on turn, and he seemed very nice and reluctant that someone tipped him, idk it felt good tho. haha anyways when i play at mt airy in pa some 1/2 dealers are clueless and theres only one 2/5 tables running and half know how to deal other half are clueless but they pool their tips, so idk. thanks for the comments!
