  1. (See hand below). Deep in the $17K tourney. I am roughly 5th with about 35 remaining. I have recently doubled up and am happy with my current stack.

UTG raiser is tourney chip leader (by a good amount) and has been playing super aggro--thus his range could be wider.

I elect to "play it safe" and see a flop and "not go broke to the chipleader." I did play it safe (and weak). I wanted to play it strong and raise to about $30K and put the decision back on him--with intention of calling a shove---but chickened out.

Coincidentally, the "better spot" I figured I would find came a couple of rounds later when I called a shove with AQ by the same player who had AK. Go figure.

So, I think my biggest problem is always thinking there will be a better spot.....not willing to die to live.....not playing to win...... shying away from the opportunities that could propel you to victory (and which also could send you to the rail). In the end, I played in this tourney for 4 hours and doubled my buy in---big whoop. I could have played one SNG, finished 3rd and had the same result. I need to change my attitude.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  2. you want to be seeing that whole board...reraise pre (at least), shove, and never call or fold.

edit---this is a spot you're looking for, right?
  3. if u are afraid of being outplayed and `going broke to the CL ' , just jam pre and be happy with the 13k in there already that u will get 90% of the time. sometimes he calls you with a pair, in those situations,

    Good luck.
  4. nw25th---I do believe that this is a spot I should be looking for. Welcoming the spot, not avoiding the spot & embracing the confrontation. Thanks.
