Please refer to this thread for any questions or comments concerning bankroll management. For starters there are three links in this post to articles/blog written by Fox, Jennifear, and dgillis. Fox's article is the most basic, while Jennifear's article is for tournament and sng players whose goal is to build a roll while cashing out at same time. The article by dgillis is for the more mathematical minded thinkers. Please keep in mind these articles are for those that do not want to reload or risk going bust at any particular time and not for the casual player that plays for entertainment and does not mind reloading. Also, these articles do not generally apply for those that have backing arrangements, however, practicing good bankroll management would not be a bad idea for the backers to establish.

-

-
yeah .........so no tournaments ?
-

-
yeah that one looks good $1 to 1500 not too bad lol
-
i have put on $200 on stars. I've been playing $12 sng's and $12 180 players. I have done well. I put it on 10 days ago today and I now have $1900. But i'm not sure how to manage my bankroll or time. Any suggestions? I am married and have 2 small kids. My plan is when the wife graduates in May I will play full time. My questions are how many tournaments are the players that play for living playing in a day? I'm finding it hard to play all night and get up to go to work. Am i playing the right tournaments, if not what should I be playing?
-
1900 ur up in 10 days thats good ........do u play tournaments ?
-
yea thats all I play. im not a very good cash player. This website doesnt have all my cashes on here. I sent a email to get them to update it. My largest cash was 5400 on AP. I played more in 2007 and just quit playing until here lately.
-
yeah wut do u play on fulltilt ?
-
i never play on full tilt. i just play on pokerstars.
On PS i play $12 sng, and $12/180 players tourneys. -
ftp is good too
-
Taylor, imo the variance is high on those tourneys, would consider sticking it out for a little while longer on the $12 180 mans & mix in the $22 180 mans (non-turbo) if you are comfortable with non-turbos and have the time..
In regards to how many tables you should play at once, its really a personal thing.. There is a point where if you load too many tables you will be a losing player, and there is a point if you don't load enough tables you are not maximizing the amount you can make per hour.. You can keep practicing adding 1 or 2 tables more and see how it goes, you will be able to define your own comfort level and possibly get better at loading up more at once.. Hopefully someone that grinds the 180 mans can chime in to give you further insight.. My guess is that even the best grinders at these are just making a small amount per hour per table and can make some serious money consistantly by grinding as many tables as their limits allow.. -
My life just seem to be full of up and downs.
I remember earlier in the year i was grinding in the stockmarket.. went from 8k to 30k...then...u know what happened.
then poker. I just never have a comfortable BR... usually it goes like deposit-deposit-deposit-big win!-withdraw 80%- broke-deposit...a weird cycle..
as my "big wins" a only under 2k.. it's pretty easy to go broke as after withdraw and leaving like 100 in account..
the problems now is i don't know what i'm doing wrong for not having a big win..i can feel i'm playing better. but just can't seem to ship a tourney, even with the "big win" it's from 3rd place and under..
Have been with stars for over 6 month now. i mostly play MTTs.. and I play really wide..from 0.1 tourney to the million..I still remember one of the stupidest thing i did was buying into a 109 tourney with a 112 bank roll..
started on FT recently...run bad most of the times..the only 3.4 times i ran good..i screwed it up in late stages..
My original goal with online poker was win one/two 5 figure tourney then leave some br for causal play and focuse on study/life.
but it not really working out now.Not really sure if that's because i couldn't cope with variances or what.
So i decide to have one last shot at the game.
the plan is to deposit 1k on each site if that doesn't work out. (ROI<0) I guess i have to give up online poker for a while..
So now keen to hear advice for ur guys what tourney should i play with this BR on stars and FT. SNGs..don't really like those but keen to hear thoughts on it.
i GUESS THIS POST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POST FOR MY POKER LIFE
SO THANKS HEAPS FOR ANY INPUTS AND ADVICE!!!!! -
Good evening, everyone. This is my first post on this forum and I seek your guidance. Recently I moved or am planning to move from cash to tournaments and I have a bankroll of roughly $880, I have played few tournaments in the past and lately even more, and I've studied it some too so I'm not a total beginner. The question is: What are the best tournaments on pokerstars and Full Tilt for this kind of bankroll? The game is no-limit hold'em. Also, it doesn't have to be on those 2 sites, UB or any othe siter is fine too so go ahead and share your suggestions.
Thanks. -
welcome.
I would play $11 and lower tournaments. you would probably be interested to read the p5s BR management article, I don't have the link handy, gl at the tables. -
Hey Guys, I have been a long time follower of these threads (about 4 years now) and I really want to say thank you for all the information and great posts that have been put on here over the years. In the years past I was really scared to post on here because I was a really terrible poker player and I was scared to ask any questions. Just recently on November first after taking two years off from the game of poker I finally decided to deposit money again online. Since November I have seen dramatic results from all the studying and great tips that i have also read on these forums and I wanted to thank everyone that posts on this website for some great information.
This leads to my second question I have built up a nice bankroll playing basically 1-10 dollar mtt's and don's. I was wondering at what point should I consider maybe moving up stakes? The second part to that is, I was wondering am I posting a good enough roi to consider moving up. I have played about 1200 games since november but I still do not know if this is enough volume to get an accurate read. I play on the merge network and my name is valetforlife03 (lol very gay name, dont ask) if anyone can take a look at my numbers and give me an idea I would truly appreciate it. I wish I could ask someone I know, but I dont have any friends that play the game of poker that could give me any idea. Once again thank you everyone for all the information and I hope you enjoy this new years and holiday season that is upon us. -
It could be, but I was no where near anyone's level of play when I first started. I was the guy on the tables that you would love to have sit down. So I didn't want to post on here because I knew I probably would get ridiculed, but since I'm stubborn I decided to read some books and take some time off before I came back because I really love the game and didn't want to get owned day in and day out.
-
Hard question to answer without knowing your current roll, buyin level, and where you want to move to. more details please.
-
Whoops your right, I didn't ask a first question. My bankroll is at 2700 right now and the only stats I can base my play off of is sharkscope which really isnt much.
-
hey
u have no bankroll for 10$ mtts imo; u could playa few per week and u some micros
mtts have huge variance and sicne u re a begginer u shouldnt be playing much of those anyway imo
anyway, look 4 the ones that have lower variance- that is, non turbos, smaller fields, up to 500 if possible
also, u should try playing sth else than dons; it s hard to make big money on those unless u play 20- 50$- but those are not that soft imo -
Moderator Note: Merged from how many actually do br management
Edited By: wackyJaxon Dec 17th, 2010 at 03:58 PM
i rarely do, i cant stand when someone says i got $5 in stars and people say use BR management and play .25 45 mans, r u kidding me gtfo, i doubt u get nowhere with them, BR management is for ppl with decent size bankrolls or pros i think, nuff said (in before someone puts i got $5 on stars what should i do)
Reason: Merged from how many actually do br management -
I do. Never deposited. Got $5 from Intellipoker quiz, and ran with it, grinded a bunch, and now I take a lot of care of my bankroll. If I had just deposited initially, I wouldn't have worked so hard on my sng game and would probably be a losing player right now.
