  1. I believe that if you want to play only cash game online you should be using 5% max of your bankroll

I'm a tournament player online and I use between 1% 2% of my bankroll to be able to have swings.

    Good luck
  2. i play mtts/sngs and generally spend about 20% of my br when i play... Maybe i play to much.

I think as long as you have 100-200 buyins you should be ok as long as you are a good player.
  3. thanks guys!
  4. Hey guys, wasn't sure where to put this but I'm looking for some serious advice. I've been playing for a few years now, did ok on stars.. and was just getting really into building a BR when BF hit. So I started on Carbon, and was running horrible for a long time. Finally just gave up for a while, and then one day deposited $30. Won like $140, then the next day got 2nd in an $11 for like $900. That was actually my biggest score ever. I went up and down for a while, cancelling my withdrawl like a degen and playing again. Originally cashed out $800.. had that down to like $200 from just playing with it.

Just said F it one day and played a $33 rebuy or something maybe $44 and got 3rd for $1350. Was able to get like a Grand off the site, and then lost whatever else I had. Few weeks later I deposit $50 and get like 5th in some $5 rebuy for $560. Then I take a shot in the $109 150k on Sunday, and get 11th for $1650. KK < 88. I was pretty crushed, but at the same time it was awesome cause it a nice score for me. Then got 4th or 5th in another tournament the next day for $321. So I had like 2k, and got like $1200 off. Played some tournaments one night, then cash the next and lost $540 over 2 nights. Put $60 on again, and lost that.

Obviously it's BR management, but what can I actually grind on merge?? I've been so up and down, and I know it's how poker is but what would you guys recommend? All in all I'm doing well lately yeah, but I feel like I can keep putting like $50 back on here and there and just run bad again. Thoughts?? Anything is appreciated. And I know this story kinda sucks, cause I should have shipped that 150k for 27k and not be making this dumb thread. Thanks, and GL everyone.
  5. You already know what the problem is.......You suck at BR management. Just do a thread search on br management and bankroll management and head the advice of others.

Then quit leaving yourself with only $50.
  6. I understand withdrawing if you need the money but you need money to play with. If you can grind cash games you need a 30 buy in roll. MTTs should be a 200 buyin roll. You are taking alot of big shots. Some worked out but you can quickly run through your winnings. A shot here and there is ok. Play smaller. A lot of decent rebuy trnys under $10 on there.

20 buys in for cash is fine.
  8. You're obviously running well right now but you are playing above your roll, hence you needing to redeposit all the time. I've never played on Carbon but I would think that they would have some lower limit tourneys that you can play to continue to build your skill while helping to increase your roll. You definitely need to check out some BR management articles though.

Yeah, well the thing is I'm stuck thinking is it just that I'm running well? Or Am I playing well? Sounds stupid, but when I have a downswing like I did after I won I just think I was getting lucky before. They have some smaller stuff, but to get a decent score you really have to play stuff $11 and up really. Very few high guarantee micro tournaments.

The thing is, you probably love the adrenaline rush of big swings. Having your bankroll next to nothing and then hitting a big score. But that's not how a professional does it. If you want to grind up a roll you have to actually grind. You cashed out a couple grand it seems, so deposit $500 on lock and grind. Play nothing higher than $5 tourneys (not rebuys) until you have $1200+ and can add a few $10s. If you can't commit to playing the small buy-ins than you aren't built for this. You could very well be a decent player but professional players feed off the players that bankroll spew. We're in it for the long haul so we can beat the variance and the players that play the highest games they can buy-in for have the odds stacked against them.
  11. hello everyone. since playing online, ive always had a tough time, finding and sticking to a way to building my bankroll. is playing, for instance. 4 tables of 2c4c a good way? or playing 1 table of 25.50?

or really, whats the best way to build a bankroll? I'm not much of a tournament player. i do play them. a few deep runs. but no huge cashes or anything. one day i hope to play for a living. maybe 2-3 years.

    thanks

Honestly, the best way to build a bankroll is to get a job so you don't worry about the money so much& you can start at like 10nl or 20nl or something.
  13. Im sitting at ~$750 on merge, and mainly play NL25. I just got a video coaching subscription to try and work on my MTT game. There arent many options on Merge, but this is what I play: $3r, $5turbo, $11dpstack, and $11 sunday 20k...*basically only the low level gaurantees.

Thoughts? Stay at cash until bigger sites go US? And are these brm numbers ok?

    Thanks

  14. Those are good. Best deal in US for now. You can do well in those trnys. Grind cash and build up, make some rakeback, get some player points, and keep going. You are playing good limits. $11 is technically a little high but it's fine if you aren't playing tons of them. The small rebuys have decent prizepools.
  15. how many buy ins behind would most grinders feel safe with to mtt? 50... 75.... or 100 ?

  16. Not enough information.
    Live or Online
What is you skill level & how long have you been playing? If you have limited playing experience & are working on your game plan; you will need a significantly larger BR.
If you are playing online, how many games are you comfortable playing per session?
Are you playing mostly large field events (<1K ppl), (>1K ppl)?
  17. 500-1000 imho
  18. Hey P5 world,

I created an account due to the shutdown of 2+2 and also because I would love to incorporate MTTs into my grind. I've been a micro stakes cash grinder for the past few years due to work and having a family. It's not easy to get more than 2hrs to myself so I always stuck with the freedom of cash games. I dabble in tourneys every once in a while just to switch things up a bit. I recently shipped a $5 PLO FO on Merge and the excitement from winning was an awesome feeling. Better than any feeling I get when I have a good cash session.

Anyways, I currently have $400 roll. I play mostly 10nl with some 25nl mixed in here and there. I usually put in at least one 2 hour session a day. With my limited schedule, what would be a good limit for me to play given my BR and time commitment? Thanks in advance for the help!
  19. if you're expecting to win an mtt i would expect the average time to be around 3 and a half to 4 hours, 45 man might me a good option for you if you have access to stars or the bigger sites.
  20. HEY GUYS IM TAKING A BREAK FROM 9 MAN AND 6 MAN SNG'S WHATS THE IDEAL BANKROLL IN BUY INS FOR TURBO HU SNGS PLAYING SMALL STAKES LIKE 7$ AND 15$ ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED THANKS GUYS
  21. 30 BI FOR TURBO
60+ FOR HYPER BUT IMO 100 AT LEAST

    - NMHU.
  22. Hey fellas.Having lost my first 50$ on stars :/,i've decided to take it more seriously.I've read pretty much every poker book, that can be found online, and also i'm reading again and again every relevant thread in major pokersites. My main goal is to get my bankroll up to 2000$,beginning from a 200$ deposit. On what type of SnG do you think i should focus? 6max,18men,45men,180men?Also among these sng types, which one has the wider swings?I'm asking so,cause i'd rather have a steady profit than a big-n-fast one.

  23. Your larger swings are going to come from your larger fields. So the 180s in this case. Will you be playing turbos our regular sngs? I would say play a little of everything until you see what you are built for
  24. I liked the 180's when we could play. They were swingy as hell but beatable if Bankrolled Properly and kept your head right and have a little knowledge of push/fold poker. 200 might not be enough to start at the 2 dollar level id go with 300 at least to feel safe especially if your multi-tabling. There would be times at peak hours when I would have 35+ going at once so having 150 buy ins is safe.
  25. 35 going. Are you a bot?
  26. i'm planning to do 8-tabling max in order to get more concetrated, also i think regular speed is better for a start than turbo sngs.

When US was able to play id play a couple hour session in the afternoon on my days off. From like 1-3 Eastern Time I would use Table Ninja and it would register me every one that went off. So I would get in 100 or so in a two hour session. When you have the software its not that hard to play that many especially when most of your decisions are either shove or fold.
  28. Recently I have started to play the hyper turbo satelittes, where you start with 500 chips and the blinds are at 25/50. the blinds increase every 3 minutes. I am a disciplined player, so would like to obviously play these SNG's with the correct bankroll. Has anybody played these games or know roughly how many buy ins you should have to be able to correctly play these SNG's with correct bankroll management?

  29. its probably between 100-200 buy ins, but if ur a tight player? i really suggest not playing them!!
  30. Since you start with a 10bb stack, you begin the tournament in push/fold. You can expect some large swings in BR. These T-SnG are not for tight players. You have to move your chips or you will forfeit any fold equity you might have.

I think 100-200 BI is a good place to start until you find your way in this exciting game.
