Hello all,
I will be making my first deposit onto online poker and have some questions before I do so, I hope Ive come to the right place!
I need help with bankroll management and to know what limits to stay in with an initial deposit of $125.00
I used to play on pokerstars before it got shut down due to the DOJ (as im sure most of you know) I want to know what site is best for my limits right now ( Im primarily an mtt/sng player but Im open to playing cash if I have to) Anyways, I just would like some input on what you guys would play and what would be a good rule of thumb to grind the 125$ and build it to 400$ so i can have the roll to play 11$ mtt's and under...Ive done some research and it looks like cake, merge, and bovada are best for US players! What site is best for lets say 3.30$ sng's and mtt's until I can build the bankroll...I know its gonna be a long grind but im really looking foward to some intellectual and positive feedback. Thank you for your time and wisdom and wish me goodluck in my new online poker grind! :)))) -
$400 is nowhere near enough to play $11 MTTs. At least $2200 would closer to the mark. There is an entire thread here on bankroll management which I would encourage you to read.

I play on carbon poker.. i bought in with $25 and played 0.02/0.04 until i got to $102 then I got bored jumped levels and played outside of my bank roll and pretty much got "blinded out".

Reason: Merged from - With $1000 what limit of no limit holdem should i be playing at? -
what is a good amount of $ to keep on us friendly sites? should i stick to brm and have 200 buy-ins for my limit? should i have a set amount that once it goes over i w/d? just don't want to have too much cash on-line just to be safe. thanks for all the serious responses!
-
yeah i think its best to keep less than typical brm would suggest. think of it has diversifying your bankroll. keep some of it on the sites and some of it in cash or on a prepaid card. if you do dip below like 40-50 buyins on the site you can deposit/swap to replenish it.
Also consider that it can be hard to not only keep enough on the sites, but to keep from keeping too much on there. so withdrawal when and how you can to prevent and situation where you suddenly are several months worth of withdrawals over your ideal BR or run into trouble in that way. -
how hard is it to deposit? why leave more then a couple days play online if you can deposit instantly

It varies, but there it is definitely not 100% instant deposit with no chance of denial and/or getting defrauded in some way. Some sites charge a vig, some have western union (which certainly isn't cost-free). There's always swapping funds, which can get you a slight 'deposit bonus' but that carries its own risks.
So yeah, depositing is definitely doable, but it is not without its obstacles. -
75-100 is def fine as mentioned above esp considering all the fields are pretty small. You arent gonna usually go on some big 150 buyin downswing with fields that small, much lower variance
-
yeah to losing poker players Im sure it could.
-
I mean losing 2.5k playing $20 buyins with fields of 300 and under seems almost impossible lol. maybe Im wrong

meh idk guess it could happen, would have to run awful for a pretty long time though for sure
-
I'm a bit paranoid, but depending the stakes & cashout system you have available I'd keep less than that. I only keep enough for a couple bad sessions, & pull it off when it doubles or a little more. Frequent wds, occasional reloads if needed.
I play sngs tho, no mtts for me anymore -
Hi guys, just wondering if anyone could give me a recommended breakdown of suggested amount of buy ins for low/mid stakes MTT's comprised of hyper turbo's, turbos and freezeouts played on stars (assuming field size affects no of buy ins required). I also presume that a higher no of buy ins will be required for the hyper's especially considering variance. Thanks in advance.

As a US player the only sites that I can play on have small fields and pretty soft play. I have always followed a pretty close br management plan of <5% per mtt but i used to play in tournaments that had several thousands entrants. I particularly play on merge now. Just curious if anyone thinks that the prize structures and small field sizes would change your br management plans. the tournys seem to be less top heavy than i am used to but maybe i am mistaken.
-
i have like 40 bucks online and wanna grind i have MTT tournies can you suggest what i should do to grind if possible i do good in bounty tournies but im having trouble bubbling the money and would like some tips thanks
-
That's not anywhere near enough to play MTTs.... MTTs are the highest variance you can find because fields are big, edges are small and all the money is at the top.
-
i seem to do good i play small stakes sit and go's and a couple 1 or 2 dollar tournies on juicy stakes and seem to go deep just no wins
-
rough bankroll for these? 50 - 60 BI? or more because the swings are more brutal?
-
Yea seriously +1 to wat RedIce said. Esp stay away frm 6m hyper sats. Those rly kill almost evrybody
-
as much as this is true, i still can't understand why. i see bad shoves and bad calls all day long. variance doesn't seem to be the word for it, cause my swings only went one direction.....
-
Im a very good tourney player, i just couldnt grasp the idea of proper bankroll management. I get bored easy, and i feel like money doesnt have any value for me. I binked one for 23k last year on stars, but instead of playing with that roll I ended up spending it like its monopoly money. Probably lost 4k back to the site but still i have like 0$ to show for it..... and how come i dont feel anything when i spend that much? Am i fucked up? lol CAN SOMEONE SHOW ME THE WAY or TRAIN ME not for POKER but Bankroll Management.

Im back on full tilt and got 450 in the bamk. i want to look at building a roll, what games should i be playing both cash and tourneys.

Risin' up, back on the street

Now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive!!!!
i go byt the name sultan joker on full titlt and just started to play i have a 50 dollars bankroll now and would like to become a decent palyer one day .
i roll good at heads up but i still dont know the right steps to make a decent bankroll and dont even know how much is a decent bankroll to start making some good money out of poker so id like ur precious advice u pros out there by telling me what sort of games should i play on full tilt and the right way to climb the ladder uppppp!!!! -
Hey guys, so i've recently started a really tight set of bankroll management rules (grinding Mtt's with no more than 2% of my total bankroll) but i would just like an experienced players opinion on entering re-buy tournaments? what percentage of your bankroll do you buy into Re-buys and also is there a limit on how many times you will buy in?
-
Hey mate, say if your BR is around $1k, you should probably be only playing the 2r's
If your worrying about how many times your rebuying then its usually out of your roll
There is a better thread around here for Bankroll management though
