Nice to see after our wonderful people of NROG claimed victory for thisweek saying that Frist had failed to attach the IG bill and would notattach it before the lame duck session they are not posting the newsgoing on today.
Frist is looking to attach the IG bill to the port security bill and it is possible that it will be voted on today. -
FUCKING REPUBLICANS. Trying to sneak the bill in since senators just want to gtfo and go on their vacations.
In other news, house member Mark Foley resigned for being caught writing explicit letters to a 16 year old boy. Hey, at least Clinton hooked up with legal WOMEN. -
As terrible as this IG bill is and the way its being sneaked unto another unrelated bill is disgusting but is really Par for the course. This issue is truely the least relevant of the shady and criminal dealings of our current government. These people are building a police state in america and i can promise the future of your internet gambling will pale in comparison to the other infringements they are planning for us all.
W e l c o m e tooooooo the Machine! -
nice timing on the Floyd

I just talked to Jay Bailey and the NROG and Michael Bolcerek at the PPA.
Michael claimed the language is in the Port Security Bill. Michael believes the Leach bill is in there, which would prohibit all financial transactions. It does not extend the Wire Act, it is more of an enforcement mechanism. There are some Internet provisions are in there.
Jay mentioned that he thought this would pass.
We are all not exactly sure what language has made its way in. Hastert and Frist have been pushing to get this done. The Senate is now their focus.
PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATORS. If this legislation goes down, it will go through in the next few hours. The Senate should adjourn at the end of the day today, most likely sometime after midnight. CONTACT YOUR SENATORS tonight. This is it for our cause.
This is not good at all. -
Not only that, but Foley is in charge of the Hose Caucaus for Missing and Violated Children. He's in charge of protecting children basically . . .
-
pleaseeeeeeeeee callll,
-
These people have jurisdiction over port security legislation on Senate side.
Susan Collins, Chairwoman Senate Homeland Security Committee: 202-224-2523 main office, 202-224-4751 committee office (this is the more important one to call)
Joe Lieberman, Ranking Member of same: 202 224-4041, 202-224-2627 (committee office, more important)
Daniel Inouye, Ranking Member, Senate Commerce Committee: 202-224-0411 -
ugh.
are we talking CSPAN or CSPAN2? :p I can't tell the difference sometimes. -
Both senators in Georgia called.
Tim -

-

-
I am calling my Senator tomorrow first thing in the AM!
-
Is there an online place to watch these proceedings?
-
Do not wait, from what I understand they are done after today, but will be working very late...
-
They will be voting on the port bill around 11pm est
-
Port security bill will be the last bill voted on tonight and it should be around 11:00 pm eastern time. Call NOW!!!!!!
Tim -

202-224-2627 -
Question-
How will this bill do anything to stop transactions through wallets like Neteller, Firepay, Central Coin, etc? Surely they can't outlaw those, or outlaw money coming from those wallets back into your bank account. -
from the CongressDaily PM update:
Republican Leaders Reach Port Security Conference Deal ...
"A major maritime security bill will head to the House floor
tonight with a last-minute provision that would crack down on the $12 billion online gambling industry but without other controversial additions, such as court security measures and protections for phone companies that cooperate with government wiretapping, House Homeland Security Chairman King told CongressDaily today. King said the text of the conference report is done and will be brought to the House floor tonight for a vote. House and Senate Republican leaders were trying earlier today to attach last-minute measures to the bill. The only one that survived was from Senate Majority Leader Frist that would crack down on Internet gambling, King said." -
Hey what should I say when Icall?
-
tell them you are a constituent who strongly opposes the internet gaming legislation which is leaching on the port security act.
Its quick and easy... -
Yeah, what are the details I have heard that this may only affect credit cards? Would it apply to the firepays, netellers, etc?
-
Both mine mailboxes are full in IL
-
I've called and left voice mails for a number of people involved in this legislation. I'm hoping more people are calling then posting about this extremely important bill.
Kudos to the P5s Admins and NRog for staying on top of trying to protect our rights as poker players. Hoever, i'm surprised by this boards(and a lot of the poker community in general,2+2 admins, etc) relative silence on this subject in relation to the weight this bill has on many of our hobbies/jobs. Surely there should be more discussion on limitations being placed on our ability to play poker than if "old geezers" can beat "young ballaz" or how many people are in the WCOOP(btw, 2115 is the#, jacket me) -
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Most forms of Internet gambling would be banned under a bill that received final U.S. congressional approval early Saturday.
The House of Representatives and Senate approved the measure and sent it to President George W. Bush to sign into law.
The bill, a compromise between earlier versions passed by the two chambers, would make it illegal for banks and credit card companies to make payments to online gambling sites.
Democrats had accused Republicans of pushing the bill to placate its conservative base, particularly the religious right, before the November 7 congressional elections.
"It's been over 10 years in the making. The enforcement provisions provided by this bill will go a long way to stop these illegal online operations," said Sen. Jon Kyl (news, bio, voting record), an Arizona Republican and a chief sponsor of the measure.
Negotiators from the Republican-led House and Senate reached a deal on the legislation Friday and attached it to unrelated legislation to bolster port security, which the Congress approved.
The final bill dropped earlier provisions opposed by some gaming interests that would have clarified that a 1961 federal law banning interstate telephone betting also covers an array of online gambling.
Investors in British-based gaming companies such as BETonSPORTS Plc, Partygaming Plc and 888 Holdings Plc have tracked the legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Tennessee Republican and potential 2008 presidential candidate, recently appeared at a hearing in Iowa -- the state that holds the first presidential nominating contest for the 2008 election -- to listen to concerns about Internet gambling. -
What are the bill #'s????
-
I just heard it was passed. Is this true?
