DoomsDay approaches.....will we all be ready? -
That's actually really interesting. I've played around with the Poker Academy Pro software which uses the Poki AI to provide challenging opponents. It's a good learning tool and a good way to avoid tilting off all your real money.
Just scanning that shows how complicated it really is trying to model the decision making that goes into routine plays at the poker table. I bet you didn't know you were calculating Foldratio= tanh((center-EHS)*scaleFactorX)/scaleFactorY))+dy) every time you raised from late postiion did you?
We bees smart ; )))) -
Lenny's a bot!!!

Good read. The complexity that goes into making a program that can make proper decisions to some of the common plays you see at a table, let along advanced play is amazing.
Chalk one up for the Humans...

This is certainly a VERY interesting topic. WILL 'poker bots' ever be able to consistently beat the world's best poker players ? This same debate still rages in the chess community, and even though 'Deep Blue' beat the world champion, the debate is still not settled.
Chess has a 'finite' number of moves.........64 squares on the chess board and 32 pieces.....the total number of possible moves is finite and could be calculated.
Poker is also 'finite' in that there are 10 players and 52 cards and each player has only four possible options: fold, check, call, or raise.......
SO....poker and chess lend themselves well to computer simulations because of the computer's tremendous calculating powers.......
BUT.......humans have the extreme capability to make irrational and unorthodox plays......I have found I can beat a computer chess program I play against if I make non-traditional moves at the beginning....I still wonder if the best poker programs will EVER be able to consistently beat the best humans.....the debate rages on.........
