Ok
Actual Poker Question.
I play a live poker tournament every Wednesday night. It is a poker League and yes the play is soft. But still. We are 4 weeks in and usually have about 60-70 players. I have 2 ninth place finishes and yesterday i took it down. I played well and sucked out a few times. Thats just how I roll. This sample is small but this is just this leagues session. Over the last year I have done very well.
The question is why do I struggle in online poker. I am not a break even player online but live I do very well. Maybe they have a kick this player in the balls button and they always press it when I am playing online. {Maybe I will e-mail UB and ask them}
Do any of you have better results live than online. It is so frustrating because I want to play well online and live. It just seems like I can never get going online. Their is also not enough places around ND to play live all the time.
Any Advice. -
I prefer Live to online. Here are a few things that are common knowledge about online play:
1. There is no embarassement factor to making a bad play and sucking out.
2. There are many databases that players use to see if you are weak, a losing player, ect...and they adjust their style accordingly.
3. All you have for information online is betting patterns. I personally don't get the same feel as I do when I play live.
4. There are those that multi account, use IM's or cell phones, or have 5 or more guys sitting in the same room using wireless routers or multiple ISp's. And don't forget those who use Winbot. It happens.
AND REALIZE that you are playing some very tough players when playing online.....it's far tougher than the average poker league. Really, it's tougher than ANY poker league. I have found the overall play in the few MTT's I have played in a "league" to be pathetically weak. It isn't even close to comparison.
SO the advise for playing online is bring your "A" game, or work on getting one. -
Live poker is rigged.

Brilliant.

online is harder, but i think that can be made up from the ability to multi-table.

I play 1-2 no limit and tournys at a few of my local casinos and i find it much more profitable.... Personally I find it suits my game more as I'm forced to play one hand at a time, leading me to be much more selective when it comes to playing hands. Ontop of that my concentration level is much higher live as there isnt much else to do other than stare at the server and the muted tvs.

Live play invloves people who are enjoying themselves for a night out, On-Line play invloves dedicated people who'd like to rip your throat out, GL.

Nice
Well one thing i tried live was to listen to Angry Music so I play with an edge to me. Maybe I should do that when playing on the internet as well so then I will want to rip peoples throats out.

And don't forget those who use Winbot. It happens.

At the same limits, live poker is ridiculously easy compared to online poker. It's not close.

Well Then I need to sign up for a poker school. Because I do really well live and what your telling me is maybe I am not that good at all.
Truth Sux sometimes. Although I did beat WiscoMurray in one hand yesterday. No skill involved with a set but a win is a win. And I did continue to donk all my chips off about an hour later. It was great. -
Well, here's the thing. Comparing spcific limits, such as 1-2 online is MUCH harder than 1-2 live, but the reason for that is because the LOWEST levels you will find live are 1-2, where online it's about the fourth tier.
Likewise, 4-8 online live is harder than 4-8 live because it's only the 4th level.
But in general which is harder, live or online, I think probably live. It depends on the person. Some good live players struggle online, and some strong online players struggle live -
I know I struggle online, but live seams much easier. I get bored online pretty quickly, but live keeps my attention. Plus I'm a pretty social person and I like the live interaction. I have come to a point that I'm giving up online after the $250k on Dise on Monday. Instead I'm going to hit the next couple WSOP Circuit events and some of the WPT events.

That makes a lot of sense. I will keep working and working. I really want to be a great online player.
Thanks

I am going to try to listen to Angry Music to try to make me Edgy....
