I really have no idea. The major players in the US do not shy away from submitting their profession as online pros and talk about it in interviews on sportscenter. So whats the answer? Say someone withdrawals 30k, 40k, 80k etc. within a short period time, Do red flags go up with the bank?

It's illegal to play in the stake of Washington.
The issue is not whether it's legal. The problem is whether you can find a way to fund your account to play for money. UGIEA restrixcts what financila institutions can do (money transctions). -
I still have trouble with this too. I mean I hear that it is legal to play but illegal for banks to cash our checks. I don't play expecting to loose, and I plan to make money. The only way I am going to receive this money is cashing out checks, so it just seems like a tough spot to be in for US players.

So when it comes to paying taxes, what does someone claim this under? Say the made 70k in a year, I.E.
Thanks Neek -
it is legal to play and of course you can file as gambling/poker winnings

-from what i understand, on-line poker has recently been legalized and regulated in new jersey. other than NJ, i don't know if on-line poker is legal in places where live poker is, such as vegas, card rooms, reservations, etc. everywhere esle, my understanding is that on-line poker is technically illegal, altough no american has ever been prosecuted for it. however, about three months ago, NJ's supreme court made it a felony and appears ready to enforce it, so major sites have dropped Washington state. The house intoroduced a bill in committee to legalize and regulate it nationwide, but the bill never made it to the floor for a vote before the session ended and with seats changing, it appears unlikely for a vote anytime soon, but that is probably just posturing to give Harras's time to build their shit because Hellmuth left UB and the exectutives from cake left, but that is all creative speculation on my part there.

annnnd, of course, no solid answer.

It is illegal in the State of Washington. A bill has been passed in N.J. ( i believe its waiting its 45 day veto period if that person so chooses to veto it) to make IN-STATE online gambling legal. We do not really know what will happen in the state yet. It is LEGAL to play online poker in the United States, however, it is illegal for the banks to 'help' us fund our said accounts. I've never had a bank tell me they will not cash one of my checks, however, I use bankwires now, so that wont matter much. I haven't deposited within about 6 months, but never had a problem when using echecks, on stars, or Tilt.
Hope this helps.
