why does durrrr get the credit for this?
-
Whenever I call they have it. When I fold they show the bluff
-
and how
-
from my personal experiance
If they do it on the flop or turn that have a weakish hand they want to protect or they're on a pure bluff
If they do it on the river they have the nuts and want it it look like a steal so you'll call. -
I've seen this consistently for years. There are so many different versions of this play, that it's difficult to say who started it. I'm guessing that some players like Puggy Pearson, Stu Ungar, or Johnny Moss were making this play when Dwan wasn't even a thought.
I've seen many players online make this move after checking both the flop and the turn...this is WAY too obvious. Most of those situations involve where the player has flopped the nuts, and is trapping. Yet, I've seen a few players at higher limits make this same play as a bluff using the whole, "he thinks that I think that he thinks scenario." -
Didn't Doyle call down Johnny Moss with J-hi after Johnny bet like $5k into a $1k pot or something on the riv back in the 60s?

I think I may have heard something like that, but not sure. Either way...with the volume of poker that's been played over the years I doubt any "move" is original these days.

Don't quote me on this, but pretty sure it was with Q10 and moss had j10, flop was 8 9 king and the board bricked out. Moss overbet the river and Doyle called him with just the queen high, saying the only possible hand that moss could have had was j10.

No someone lead out on a K 7 8 board, both Moss and Doyle called. The turn and river blanked and Moss made a big overbet on the river with 9,10 after it had been checked down to the river, and Doyle called with J10.
