So I'm watching the WSOP Main Event Episode 1/4 on pokertube and I notice Doyle Brunson open raises to 700 when the blinds are 50/100 and then he gets called by j-10. Also earlier when the blinds were 50-100 he limp calls a raise to 700 with 8-9 suited by some guy who had A-K preflop. Was this standard play at the WSOP.....raises of 7bb preflop?

If you listen to the table talk after the hand Doyle says that he was just getting tired of the one dude raising every time he tried to limp. It made it seem like doyle limped the Ak with the intention of making this play so that he would stop getting raised when he limped.

Yeah lol I still remember the play from the 04 Main Event I think it was where Doyle like limp called Howard Lederer then just shoved with a flush draw on a 7 high board when Lederer had pocket 7s. Lederer was like "I think I have to call you Doyle" lol. I felt so bad for Lederer when Doyle hit after his overbet.

There are a couple of ways around that, the first of which being, you know, DON'T LIMP INTO POTS. Other than that, if his intent was to get the guy to fold, a reraise to 5000 or so would acomplish that much better than an overbet shove would. Shoving screams AK there, and any hand that is calling his is beating him.
