  1. I just had a simple question. Once a mtt gets down to about 20 players how does your play change? Are you generally playing the rest of the tournament like a sng or are you gambling and taking big risks? Which is better at this point of the tournament?

I am a pretty decent sng player and once an 180 got down to about 16, I just played it like a sng and took it down. What works better over time though Building a huge stack with risky plays or just playing tag with the possibilities of blinds eating you up? Thank you for your responses in advance.

  3. Not that I win tourneys everyday...but i will offer some advice. To be quite honest it really depends on the Buy in of the tournament, and your chip stack at the 3 table mark. If your playing with a bunch of LAG players, i would pick your spots to resteal and gain chips if you have a nice resteal stack-10-20bb's or just play TAG and make them commit there chips as an underdog. You would be quite amazed at how many times you will get called on a reshove by a LAG chip leader--their raising range is so wide(not to mention many players are raising far too much preflop and feel wrongly pot committed)..take the double up and good luck at the FT.

Early play in a tournament is for accumulating chips, it is far better to gamble early on to accumulate the chips. This allows you to start picking up the dead money later on when the short stacks are playing shove fold poker(you never just want to get eaten up by blinds--however if you are familiar with Harrington's M theory then you need go by that at least. Shove hands that will match up good against calling hands. Just keep in mind, there is a difference between gambling and put your money in on +EV plays. I will take that pair and flush draw early on for all my chips to build that stack now rather than fold, and hope to catch some hands..... Anyway...Best of luck at the tables
  4. Treating it like a Sng is a decent starting point, especially if stacks are short, but you can improve on that by taking advantage of the situation (bully the weak, use position, play back at Lags etc). The fun thing about poker is that it's a situational game so experience helps. Just play a lot, and try to improve all the time. fwiw I have 11 wins the last couple of weeks so it def helps to just run good too lol
  5. Thanks for the informative help guys
