I did not see it on the front page, and I searched. Please proceed to flame if failed.
Did not see this one coming. Eh, he was a good champion and seemed like a solid player, I think the world o' poker will miss a soft, spoken young champion. -
Seems extremely classy and totally legit, good for him.
-
I wish him the best of luck in whatever he decides to do with the rest of his life.
-
This is prob good news for most high stakes regs. Eastgate seemed like a very smart, thinking player. Gl to him, I think he's basically done what most ppl set out to do when they become poker players - get rich and retire.
-
very good decision IMO. didn't he quit school to play poker?
-
damm
-
I always liked him a lot. Most def a very respectable ME champ.

Best of luck to him -
I would guess that he will be back, its just a temporary decision, gives him time and then can play when its 'fun' for him.. Would take a small prop bet he enters a live tourney by end of next wsop..
-
Pretty rare to find someone as well liked as he obviously is. He seems a thoughly nice lad.
He comes across as a guy thats not comfortable in the limelight, no shame in that, a lot of us would have the same problem.
No doubt he'll probably play again online in the future after taking a break, cant see him giving the game up totally.
GL to him. -
gs
one day ill make enough usd to just relax on my ass. -
I think you guys don't get the point. Take a look at what he said the 20th feb 2009 :
"I tried to play the highest stakes there is online, but unfortunately I couldn't beat those guys," he said. "I am admitting that those guys are better than me. I have a negative equity playing in those games." Isser a.k.a. Peter Eastgate.

if i won 9 million dollars you bet im not going to be sitting behind a computer pressing a mouse all day. hes making a smart decision.
-
great decision.. id be on the golf course 5 times a week not behind the computer.. and he can "quit" poker but that dosent mean he wont play the ME once a year or a WPT event for fun just no more grind. Good for him.
-
Exactly. Why would anyone grind when they no longer need to? Go enjoy life, be smart with your money and play a few tournaments each yeah that you enjoy playing. I doubt most people with high volume play for the enjoyment of the game, they play to make $$$ and once you have a good deal of $$$ why put yourself through it anymore?
-
He achieved what most of us are dreaming to do. Win the ME. He fortunately/unfortunately did this very early and has no motivation for anything else at this moment in the world of poker. I respect his decision and we will def see him again in the future.
-
"I want to thank pokerstars, my friends and family for their support over the last 20 months, and for their support in my decision to take a break from poker."
doesn't look like he quit to me -
there's a level of respect i have for someone that quits because it's not what he wants to do, but i can agree that it's pretty stupid. just being a ME champion is worth a lot of money, sponsorships, promotions, marketing, etc. so giving that up is throwing away money. for him to come out and say he quits is pretty silly. i'm pretty sure he could still whore himself out, collect the money, and still have plenty of time to do whatever else he wants to in life.
-
I think this is key in his decision. He can no longer play lower stakes as the money incentive isn't there for him, and him being a smart player has learned he is not a winning player at the highest stakes. Without any money motivation, playing poker can be quite pointless. I wouldn't be shocked if he goes the way of like a Varkoni, playing the ME and maybe a few tournaments. At least he learns this lesson before he goes through all his winngs.

He wasn't talking about tourneys at all.
He added that it wasn't worth it to him to risk all the money he had to prove he could beat certain guys HEADS-UP.
