Last night, FTP went down (as we all know).
They have a formula to compensate.
Naturally the rake isn't included.
On December 16th, Poker stars is offering a $5,000+$200.
Why is the rake so high? Answer: Because they can!
The concept of rake originated in poker rooms out West. The higher the game the higher the rake, because if a dealer made a mistake, the house compensated. There is a "human" element.
Online there is no dealer error.
They charge us higher rakes in tournaments as the buy-in goes up because they can. And none of us do anything about it.
They'll argue they give you more FPP. But even with the goods they offer you for the points they rape you.
Give us a break .
Lower the rake.
Signed. -
well people who can afford 5000$ buyins can afford to pay the 200$ fee for playing them. Just like people who play 5$ buyins can afford 50 cent fees for playing them. They put these on here because they can. I can see if they upped the rake people would be upset because it would seem like they were taking advantage of us, but they have been pretty consistent imo. Hundreds of thousands play with the rake and it makes them tons of money so why would they stop.
-
Cosign, but it'll never happen.
-
Ok they obviously get enough people to play at the current rake rate or else they would lower the rake to attract more customers. Your petition is a waste of time and energy.

Cosigned, but GTFO. They are in the business to make money too. I don't get why you people think you can tell a business how to run their business.
-
thats still 5% at the lower buy ins where broke pepl play they charge sometimes 20%. it should never be more than 10%.just a rant from a guy thats getting his roi chewed up by rake.
-
if $5000+200 was within my bankroll I'd much rather play that, than the $1+.20 that stars has. 20% rake on the micro people, now thats insane. reduce the rake on the micro's not the ballers.
and stars or ftp will never lower the rake, it just doesnt make sense for them.
FTP does have the right idea in their high stakes cash games (with their pro's)
Ziigmund shows [2s 2d As 5c]
Phil Ivey shows [9c 5d Ad Kh]
Uncalled bet of $31,988.50 returned to Ziigmund
*** RIVER *** [9h 9d 2h 2c] [4h]
Ziigmund shows four of a kind, Twos
Phil Ivey shows three of a kind, Nines
Ziigmund wins the pot ($321,982.50) with four of a kind, Twos
Phil Ivey is sitting out
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $321,983 | Rake $0.50 -
Exactly. I doubt they are losing a significant amount of business to players who don't play simply because the rake is too high. It would be a horrible business move for them to lower it at all, and in fact they could probably raise the rake a little and I'm sure tons of people would still play.
Not saying I wouldn't like a reduced rake, but it definitely won't happen. -
im pretty sure FTP returns the rake......
-
Maybe the rake should just be formulated based upon the resources needed to run a particular game/tournament. Then micro grinders would really get raped.
I would love to see the rake reduced, because I can only imagine how cheap it probably is to run lets say a SNG, but in all reality I'll gladly pay the rake online if I can forgo the rake/tips that you incur when playing live.
NOW THAT IS A RIDICULOUS RAKE! -
lol at this stupid thread
-
"If you paid $200 in rake and then their server went down but your $200 was eaten by them, would you still not have an opinion about their business practices?"
Lowering the rake will not solve the problem, they will just eat your lowered rake. Try a different approach if thats your problem. -
