So, for the last six sessions I've played online, I got ready just like I would for any regular job. I woke up, showered, shaved ect... But, instead of wearing my regular t-shirt and jeans to grind online I wanted to try a little experiment. So, I get dressed up in a shirt tie and slacks to go sit in my office and grind poker online.
I have to say that although my sample size is rather small, I think that dressing professionally has definitely changed my mentality. I feel more focused and determined than when I'm wearing whatever I want.
Is it somehow possible that dressing this way is effecting the way I think? -
do you take your briefcase and lunch aswell??
lol gotta be a level -
So hold on, you have the ability to go to work naked, and you choose to go in a suit and tie?
Fuck that! -
There is a fair amount of scientific research on the effects that dress code has on office productivity. Some of it shows it increases productivity while other research shows the opposite. I don't think there is a uniformly accepted theory on it. Nonetheless, my point is that dress code does effect workplace productivity, and some of the positive effects are linked to a different mental state. So, yes, it's quite possible that "dressing up" for work, in this case poker, could influence your mental state and perhaps even make you play better/make better decisions.

meh, showering and getting readydefinitelydo help put you in the right mindset, pretty sure roothlus wrote an article about it. I guess dressing up could have the same effect, but really thats probably just taking it further than you need to.

90 percent of poker is half mental. If it puts you in a better state of mind then by all means continue.
-
Yes it is definitely possible. A lot of the prep material for phone interviews suggests that dressing up keeps you more focused and on task.
It would be interesting if you can post an update after awhile to compare your results before and after. -
I thought this was gonna be the old "how to look like a fish in a live game". Real good image for live poker.

Dry cleaning bill would eat up some profit :-(

The dress code at my firm is business casual. I wear a suit and tie to work every day. I think it definately makes a difference or I obv wouldn't do it. I think a tie to play online poker might be a bit extreme, but I like where your head is at, and if you focus more and play better then so be it.

lol wtf, u sound like mr. rogers
-
i have a friend who had a phone interview for a job, and he got dressed up in a suit, tie and shoes for that which made a whole lotta people LOL
-
I dunno bout the whole suit/tie thing...that would make me feel like I'm at the office. I'd rather go buy a ballin hoodie so I can feel like a studly poker pro who makes mirrions of dollassss.
-
I dress up like Chuck Norris. I have never lost a hand.
-
rinse and repeat
-
I can understand dressing up a bit to play live but doing so for playing online is ridiculous
-
Its going to be a more individual effect than anything else. If you think it makes a difference it will so don't stop it. Me, personally, I sit in my local strip club in the full nude juice bar side for 8 hours a spell. The strippers acually give me their cash to play and the extra 'perks' are always a plus. So evenif I break even after a session then I'm still a'head'...come check me out in the CT/Mass area...Gold Club Hartford

I just shower and put on whatever is most comfortable.
