I'm a low stakes player, and my stats suck. I know that i am pretty decent at poker, because i very rarely go busto early in a tournament. What seems to happen to me most of the time is i stay around the chip average, then the average get's higher while i get a run of bad cards, and i end up min cashing.
Is it best to keep it tight until you get to the money and then go all in with 10 BB or less, or is it best to shove with 10 BB or less no matter how far away from the money you are, if you have a shoveable hand of course?
I've tried the latter so many times, but it seems the worst hand keeps winning. What i think i'm doing wrong is that i am playing to tight and i should just shove the shoveable hands, and the variance that comes with high volume will make me a winning player. So far it hasn't worked though. -
And to add this:
I'm currently in 3 tournies right now, all of them quite close to the bubble, but all of them i am at average or just below. ewwwwww -
pm me if ud like some info
-
play more aggressive at the bubble...go for the win, most people get a lot tighter so aggressive play will yield benefits,
-
First, good luck.
At the bubble is the time you should really open up. Remember, with the payout schemes as they are, the only way to be very profitable long-run is to make final tables. Thus, when others tighten up around the bubble, you want to open up your play. Actually, you should open earlier to avoid being in a situation where you're done to 10 BB -
Thanks for the replies. :)
Does anyone around here do HH reviews? -
Stop nitting your way to the bubble... take some risks to accumulate chips earlier then you can attack the people who tighten up on the bubble. Play to win, not to cash. Until you get this part turned around you're completely wasting your time in MTT's, that style is better suited to micro stakes cash.
-
depends how much the money means to you
-
Thank you, harsh words. (in a way) but very true. Very good advice, and i will try to change that leak in my game.

Just to throw a spin on this. I have played pokerstars $4.40 180 players mtt . Pays out 18 or better and twice now i have won it for $216.00 and both times i was bottom of bubble 18th & 15th sqeezed threw the bubble then worked my way to win them. And it always seems like right before the bubble you start getting great hands so you go all in with them and bust out before the money amazing
. So i might be wrong but i get close to it and i will throw away great hands.

Okay, we've all came back from short stacks to win but this is no way to be playing. If u believe u have the best hand or your in a position to steal then u should be pushing the action, dont be results oriented.

And it happens again. I'm short stacked and get AQ...guy calls me with his 10/8 because he has nothing better to do with his 200k stack . Of course he hits his 8, gg me.
111th for 36 bucks -
horrible play with that a4 bro

Yeah i saw, sorry i didn't respond, i usually keep it on the stats screen, or the other one. One of my biggest leaks is letting my emotions play for me. I was doing ok until that 10 8 won vs my AQ...after that i started playing stupid.

Well i'll try again tomorrow, i can't keep playing tonight if i'm going to tilt like this... -
your paying waaay to much attention to the bubble and money that your letting it affect your play. Try to keep the info tab closed and just pay attention to the players at your table and your stack vs the blinds. what happens will happen.
-
ya its all good. gl to you in the future

Problem with waiting for good hands is sometimes they never come. Even if they do but you only have 10 BB's you're probably covered and out of the tourney if you lose. You want fold equity. If you play a big stack correctly you can push people around. If you end up all in you may still have chips if you lose or possibly the chip lead if you win. GL
