So I mostly play MTT's but realizing that I need a bread and butter to support my MTT habits. I tried studying sng's for a while but to be honest, I don't have the patience to really study and work with someone like Jennifear in this arena, focus on ICM, etc...although I am not a bad player at them by any stretch of the imagination. I just recently moved to Vegas, and figured that I really need to put my emphasis on cash games since that is what is here, and it sounds like you can do well at the lower levels online.
When I first approached the game, I totally played them like an MTT player. I have tons of hand experience over the years, but never really realized the difference between cash game and MTT. I am definitely a trap player, and approached cash games from this perspective. I finally decided it was time to do this right, and so off on my journey am I! I am one of those players that still believes in the value of books, and there really is a lot of positive EV in books IMO. Not everything out there, but still some good stuff out there. I have been working a lot in "psychology" books lately and I am blown away at how much useful information there really is in this arena. One of my biggest weaknesses has been bankroll management until recently. It's all starting to finally click and everything is making sense to me finally. Ok...so I ran away from my where I was going...
I recently sat down with Harrington's books on cash games. Everything completely makes sense to me and I am not struggling digesting any of it because of the amount of hands I have played over the past. What I really had to do was finally sit down and see the "real" difference between cash games and MTT's. Now that has become crystal clear to me, and pretty confident that I can run away with building a bankroll off of "lower" limits cash games. My funds are very limited right now, and can't shell out the $99 bucks to join cardrunners at the moment. The first chance I get, I will join them because from what I have read, this is probably the best step I can do for myself when it comes to cash games.
Also, just so you understand, just because I just moved to Vegas, doesn't mean I am hanging out in the card rooms playing all the time. If that was the case, I would be more than happy to shell out the $99 to join and probably wouldn't be sitting here posting this. My first step was getting here, the next step is to be able to play in the card rooms ;)
So my question is, how can I continue working on training for cash games until I can afford to join a site like Cardrunners? I will have like a $100 bankroll to grind the micros on fulltilt while I continue to work on my game, but where do I continue to work on my game while finishing up Harrington's books? It's obvious from all of your posts that PK5's is a community I should belong to. So I am definitely going to take steps to move forward with you all (even when I sound like an ass)...but what do I do from now until I can save enough money to join Cardrunners? I don't think at the level I am playing at, I can earn enough FTP's to join cardrunners for free at the moment, but definitely an eventual goal.
Outside of trying to make a bankroll for myself so I can eventually work in cardrunners, and then a bankroll I can use for live play at $1/2 in the casinos...I don't know where to go from here.
What do I do now? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I really look forward to tapping into all of your knowledge and eventually be able to share my own experience. I think I have sat on the sidelines enough!
Thanks in advance! -
I am not sure what you mean by "working on training" w/ a 100 BR Id play the lowest buy in possible.....

I am not focused on the bankroll...I am quite clear on what to do :) I am focused on what do I do from now until i can afford to sign up with a site like cardrunners...meaning, how do I continue my education until I can afford a site like cardrunners. More specifically...is there articles, sites, threads, people that have waked in my shoes, etc...that I can participate, read, study, work on, etc... Does that make sense?
Thanks! -
Honestly, just grind .02/.05 tables. Put in as many hours as you can and you will finally get the hang of it and it's definitely the best way to learn and gain experience. If you already have the basics of poker which you said you do, then just jump in and start grinding.
