Thnaks for the update. I really think it is a tourny that will pick up in the future, don't give up on it. why not do a survey or something on here asking people what they think the best cost, time place would be.

Bit earlier for those of us of a european persuasion would help as it currently starts at 3am here
-
My suggestion:
Nobody in there right mind would play it to make money. It's a bragging rights only tourney. Bring the buy-in down to $50 or $100 and I bet you'll get a lot of action. I also wouldn't mind a start one hour earlier, but I'll play either way.
I promise everyone wants to play it, but the odds of winning are not good. -
Maybe have divisions. Like a minor league and major league with entry fees accordingly. (or you could declare major) If you cash in the minors, you move up and stay there until you have not cashed twice in a row. Alternate these bi-weekly. I'm still new to this (been playing about a year). The largest MTT that I have entered is $20. I don't even give it a second thought about entering the $50 - $100 MTT. Not that I don't want to play with the best, but just like poker hands, I don't like my odds.
Thanks, and I really like this site. I have been in the recruitment mode lately.

$100+ juice tourney and a $10+juice sattelite or two with the prize being the entry to the $100. Seems to work for all of the sites, TECs or DE sats.

I think a smaller buy in would attract a lot more players.....50 or 100 sounds good to me
-
I say free roll lol

Hey Cal and all others who run this site, It would be great if you could host the ppfives tourney on paradise poker at 7-8 pm on weekday or a weekend... I gurantee you'll get lot of action since this is the peak hours of play at paradise plus the graphics are amazing.. Just a tip, ty.
-
Yeah I think trying it on another site would be smart, preferably UB. also i really liked the idea of a smaller buy-in.
-
Agreed on a smaller buy in and a differnt site. paradise or UB would work. How about a $50 buy in? I can guarantee you get WAY more participants
-
Cal, even with 80 or so players in the first one it was not a good "value" tourny for me especially with that field and that buy-in. I told myself going in that I wanted to see at least 100 players for me to enter but the ego draw was strong enough to lure me in any way. I made an OK showing at 20th BUT I promised myself that I would not enter again unless there was a little more potential reward for my risk. I would be willing to enter an "ego" tourny for $100 at any of the afore mentioned venues with a start time of 8 or 9PM eastern time. I need good potential value to justify dragging my ass at the office the following day.

smaller buy-in is the answer to getting more players. i'd love to test my skills against these top players, but $200 is alot agianst this field of pros. try $40 or so. even $100 will not get the number or players that you are looking for. anyway gl.
-
yoyo, welcome to the board. We have not been interested in huge fields in our previous tourneys, but instead we wanted an incredible display of talent. Our next tourney will have a lower buyin that most everyone should be able to afford. Hopefully we'll still get a lot of the ranked players in this one as well.
-
thanks cal. yes that was my first post and you guys have a nice site. congrats. keep up the good work and ill see you at the tables. im trying to reach "that level" and the only way to do it is to play against the top players. it would better for me to find out for 50 bucks instead of 200.

I wish you would keep the 200 dollar buy in. I dont think I`ll bother to play a 50 dollar tourney with lots of fish. I can find that everywhere. This tourney should be something special with good players. The first tourney was lots of fun. If you just move it to UB and start it up earlier I think more of the ranked players will play it.
-
I love the idea of having a " minor league" version of this tourney, with an appropriate buy-in. I also wanted to give a pat on the back to the site administrators for their willingness to do what it takes to make this forum rock!

$50 on UB.com at about the same time is the way to go.
The 55s.com Open was played out incorrectly in the way that it should not be a weekly event. It was special that first week and maybe should be played once a month or even every 2 months.

OK, Cal - here's my suggestion: Make it a daily, or even twice-daily, $50 + 5 "tournament of tournaments" and track the results over a long period of time, similar to what I've done with the '44'. Your best players will rise to the top of the charts over time.
Take it from a guy who's hosted 300+ games that nobody in their right mind plays for the money. You'll get a much bigger data sample and will be able to make some good quantitative observations to help you with your rankings. Hell, for say, $11 a game, I'll even compile and run all the results through the same engine that I built for the 44 and tell you who's the POPPA ;) I was getting ready to branch out to stars anyway, but this might be better, as not as many people know me there.
Alternatively, you could just send everyone over to Paradise to see how they stack up in my '44' rankings. So many of your guys have played it, it's practically a scaled down pocketfives the way it is!
Tonight, we had a rookie win the 44, but he was just stunned at the level of competition found in such a cheap game. Of course, he was in the final 5 along with Lobo, or not, riverwalker and yours truly at the time he made the comment ;)
Just my thoughts. Take care, man.

I'll say, it was all I could do just to bubble out of the thing...

hey, Any consideration of hosting it on pardise or is that out of question?

Hello Cal
Since I am relatively new at this site, let me first use the opportunity to give all of You guys behind this credit for making such a great site.
Concerning the tourney I would very much like to join it myself.Do to the time difference ( Im from Denmark, Europe) it would be great if the tourney would be played as early as possible.I like the idea of having a league. Please don`t let it be a 50 dollar tourney then its just like playing anything else.I prefer quality not quantity.
Just like No limit pro I would like if it could be held at paradise poker.
Looking forward to the tourney.

Cal:
To appease the euros, maybe a 6 PM EST starting time.
And leave it at 100 bucks. It keeps the low hanging fruit/fish out for most part.
Would love to see it at Paradise as well.

I also think that a buy of $50-$100 would be more attractive. Any chance of having it on UB?
-
Let's just do it at my house. I have 8 br's, 6.5 baths. 7500 sq.ft. room for all!
and my wife says ok to bring your spouse/sig.other. she'll take them shopping. lol

8 br's as in 8 brsavages! Oh my! I'm running away screaming already.
