  1. Hey,

Its my first time going on a cruise ship going out of fort lauderdale tomorrow. I read that they have a casino but it only mentioned blackjack and slots. Has anyone been on these cruises which are 3 dayw going to the bahamas? If so, is there poker in these casinos or just the games i stated?

    Thx

So the question a growing number of poker enthusiasts are asking is: Will I find a Texas Hold 'em, Omaha or seven-card stud game on my next cruise?
The answer is "yes" on most larger cruise ships sailing from U.S. ports, but just what kind of game you will find is highly dependent on which line you are booking.
NCL and Royal Caribbean offer Texas Hold 'em on their ships with live dealers. Carnival and Princess, on the other hand, have pretty much replaced live-dealer games with automated PokerPro tables which provide a faster game that appeals to many players accustomed to playing Texas Hold 'em on a computer.
Carnival now even offers players aboard its cruise ships the opportunity to compete in a tournament to win a $10,000 seat in the World Series of Poker.
While some cruiselines like NCL now offer higher stakes tables, if you are a serious poker player and are determined to combine poker with cruising, there is one other option.
Several independent organizers advertise "poker cruises" on selected Carnival, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line sailings.
They advertise sea days of non-stop Texas Hold-em tournaments. The organizers (not the cruise line) provide the cardroom manager and dealers. Like the casino, the poker room is only open when the ship is at sea.
Over the years, thousands of poker players have taken these cruises. While we have not been on a "poker cruise" ourselves, the reports we have seen about the experience have generally been quite positive.

  3. For the most part there isn't hold em' on cruise ships. They will consider opening a a 6 - 7 player game per request for 2-5 maybe but they take 10 percent rake up to 15 dollars so it's impossible to beat the rake as people usually don't buy in for more than a 100...
  4. if you're going on a 3day cruise, you're no doubt on a carnival ship. they do have poker, but i hear the rake is pretty steep. the tables are electronic and each player has their own monitor to look at his/her own hole cards from. kind of like a combination of live and online poker i guess. each ship has only one table and i'm not sure what the limits are. i worked as a musician for carnival for a couple years but was not allowed to play poker there for obvious reasons. enjoy your cruise and don't bother with the poker imo.
  5. I haven't been on a cruise in a while, but I hear its worst the what blackeyes said about the rake. Ex. max 25 on a 1/2 game. I cant remember the cruise line
  6. I went on a Carnival cruise about two years ago that was a 5 day Bahamas trip. They had one electronic PokerPro table that was running 3/6 limit. The table usually only filled up around late afternoon and for a while after dinner. For the most part there's heaps better ways to have fun on the cruise than playing poker. But if you're bored for a while here and there the games will be absurdly soft, and it's always good to cashout your PokerPro winnings to freeroll the week's alcohol.
  7. ya, there ended up being a 3/6 limit game with a dealer....but it was'nt running the first night when i was there....the dealer told me that they did play later that night tho....and the second night there was not a game at all.... pretty lame, but as someone said, there was a lot better stuff to do on a cruise.

I was just more interested in this becuase I hav'nt been at a casino before so this would have been my first experience

  8. I always cruise Royal Caribbean and they have decent cash games and tourneys... the only thing I don't like is the newer larger ships have electronic tables (and they STILL rake 10%)
  9. wow, that's pretty nice. haven't experienced nor played poker on cruise ships. :)
