I would like to know if anyone has ever downloaded either Poker stars or FTP on their I Phone to play poker "on the go". I commute to work 1 1/2 hours each way and I am looking for something that will be able to carry the internet and be able to download the applications so that I can play. Any suggestions???
-
driving and playing poker...that is frightening.
-
LAPTOP?
-
I commute by bus. lol
-
I was thinking about something a little less bulky. Thanks
-
Don't think it will work because the OS on the iPhone is proprietary and unless pokerstars puts some time in to develop a client that will work on the iPhone OS. You might look into Pocket PC's. I'm not sure if any of them run full blown Windows, but if you can find one that does then it would run the poker client.

I have an AT&T 8525, which has a windows operating system, but these scaled-back phone operating systems lack a few of the key components necessary to run the software.
-
So, is there any type of phone/smaller wifi devices that any of you are able to play Pstars or Ftilt on?
-
The iPhone is a great tool and is really fantastic for a lot of functions. In fact I am posting this from my iPhone right now, but as was said above the operating system of the iPhone is not compatable with the poker software. Also, you can't really download that many outside apps for the phone anyway only Apple updates or they will "brick" your phone.
-
Maybe I'm too skeptical, maybe too naive.. but, would the hacking concerns playing poker be much greater playing over an i-phone?
-
as long as you choose to not automatically update your phone it will not be bricked. you can even uninstall the latest update so you can install the 3rd party software
-
I have made bets on the iPhone but havent yet download any software yet. I figured the battery life wouldn't hold up to the MTT's I play in.
-
LOL. Hey that's how we commute to NYC from the outer cities.

PS hasn't even fully developed a Mac client, let alone signaled any interest in an iPhone client. Besides, there is no software development kit (SDK) for the iPhone, although one is rumored to be available soon.
As far as other portable devices, ones that don't have a full install of a Windoz desktop OS won't run PS or FTP. Absolute has a java-based client but, well, I think you'll find elsewhere on this site why that's may not be a great idea. iPhone won't ever support Java and doesn't currently support Flash anyway.
So your options are: 1. an ultraportable and 2. a device like the Nokia 770/800, which would be limited to sites that have a Java client.
I'm sure this isn't the first shitty thing that's happened to you using Apple hardware (poker-wise) and it probably won't be the last. -

A question close to this was asked not to long ago and somone had mentioned a pocket pc. They are about the size of like a PSP, look at bet buy and circut city's web sites under computers and then look at the smallest screen size available and you can find a varity of them ranging from like 1200-1400 on up they run completly on windows like a normal computer and was told by a few different reps from best buy that I would be able to download and play online poker software off of these. Of course you would have to get a aircard to access the internet unless you are already in a wifi zone.

Bruno,
The 280p is last year's model, came with Win XP. If you can still find one around you can probably get it for under $1k. This year's model the 380n and 390p, comes with Win Vista, I've seen at Bestbuy for about $1700-$1800. I'm waiting for them to come out with a 2gb ram and 100gb HDD model to upgrade from the 280p.
The screen is 4.5inches, to get a feel for what the screen size is, take a Motorola Q or Treo, put it sideways, and the screen is the size of the phone. -
i need to get one so i can play poker in class, laptops r too noticable.
-
This is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for the info TriGonzo.

Appled Just announced an SDK for the iPhone, so if stars or Tilt are so inclined there could be a poker client for it soon. The SDK will be available in February.
