  1. Alright so I just had the other room in my place open up, and inherently started thinking about this. What I am wanting to get opinions on is whether it is better to live with someone who plays for their living or rather someone with a completely different lifestyle/job/sleep schedule.

I guess what ive been thinking about and curious about which way to go with is whether the short term help living with another pro would provide is worth the long term difficulties that it would add. I dont want to play poker professionally my entire life, so I want some sort of a foundation for exiting when i do decide to leave the game or cut back to rec. only.

Would you advise for living with someone outside of the game or a fellow pro? Please only reply if you have the proper experience/knowledge to have a legitimate opinion on the subject.

    Thanks.
  2. i have no experience in this matter, but seems healthier in general to have a non-poker roommate. I find its nice to have that balance.

  4. Sounds like what you need is an epiphany
  5. If you can live with a pro who is better than you, that could help you a lot.
  6. Depends how good looking she is...
  7. Living with another poker play can be really good for you poker game, if you are both motivated to learn, teach, and improve one another.

But from a life-away-from-the-table perspective, it could be a very bad move. I play almost 95%live for my living (still learning to navigate these online tournies), and I see a lot of people get crushed out of Vegas. A busto roomie means double living expenses for you, and you don't want to be experiencing varience during or leading up to this potential situation. Granted, I see you don't live in LV, so its not quite as easy to go BROKE, but you never know. That rent and those bills are due every month. I wouldn't live with someone who played for a living that wasn't REALLY good, and even then, never someone I didn't know REALLY well.

If this isnt what you wanna do, why tie yourself to it so tightly in your personal life? Make your money, and be able to leave clean and easy.
  8. someone who understands at least. the sleep schedule thing could be rough.
  9. Living with someone who truly understands what you do for a living might be easier than with someone who is clueless about it. In theory a pro needs to have enough to live on for 6 to 12 months in addition to his bankroll. Have him put money in escrow to cover rent during tough times at the tables. If he doesn't have enough money to put in escrow, then it would be risky. Oh sorry, I guess as a non-pro I don't qualify to tell you that... Never mind!
  10. Im more so thinkign which is greater. having a better life outside of poker but not as good of a situation to play in or a better poker situation hence making more money but not as good of a social situation.
