  1. If you dont want to read the story just go to the last sentance.

So i will give a little background story on why i was thinking about this.

I was at a local casino playing some 3/6 limit after school yesterday and this kid sat down. Right away he was loud seemed like he knew everything and was just talking to everyone. He was acually pretty good. The table was full of bad players with only about 3 people that knew anything about poker, him, me and this older man. He was to my left so i heard all the small talk and mumbling he did.

He changes seats to the 4th seat next to this woman who is horrable. She has no concept of poker whatsoever and is probably there just to play and not win money.

There was a pot where the lady calls a raise on the flop and sees the turn, calls a bet and sees the river. She had nothing on the flop. A gut shot straight draw on the turn yet still plays this hand. She wins the pot by hitting runner runner for the winning straight beating this guys set of 8's that he flopped.

The kid asks the lady "how do you make that call on the flop and turn?" she says something like "i just got lucky i guess" The kid says do you know what i think of luck? Its horse shit" And she says "karma will come around" followed by "i dont believe in that also"

So karma he has a case for but luck? Does luck exsist? I believe it does.
  2. good luck with that.
  3. 3/6 live Limit is 95% luck
  4. Without spending too much time responding as this question has been asked 13 times before, obviously luck exists. How much luck is involved with poker is another question.
  5. Does luck exist, it seems like how you look at it.

On the flop, he hit a set, but she wasn't drawing dead. She was going to win this hand some x% of the time. So, if the odds say she'll win 5% of the time, this was her 1 out of 20. Is that luck or is that part of the game? In the end, it doesn't really matter.

Then again, there are people born that, when they pop out of the womb, they will never have to work a day in their lives. If that isn't luck, I don't know what is.
  6. Luck exist; in a rigorous mathematical, probabilistic sense. Nobody is "born lucky" it's just something that happens.
  7. Drtydonkey54=unlucky in poker
Drtydonkey54= LUCKY as hell in life!!!!!!!
  8. To say that there is some unforeseeable force out there that is deciding what comes on the flop, turn, and river, and this force is "luck" is nonsense.

Let me put this in perspective.

The dealer takes the cards, shuffles them, you WATCH HIM do this, and then he cuts, and deals. The dealers hands have decided the outcome of the hand before the cards are even dealt.

Luck, no. Variance, yes. She might be 1% on the flop, but she is still 1%. You just happened to see that 1% of the time she wins. It's called statistics.
