1. I really don't think poker will be on the up and up until regulated in this country.

Based on what they did today and yesterday, I htink anything illegal is game if they can get away with it. Lee Jones needs to respond to this-and not with the party line cause it's Nazis gestapo type behavior.

Very rarely play cash games at Poker Stars and yesterday I decide I am going to. I deposit some more dollars on their and play 3 tables of cash games. I have poker edge on my computer but only use it on sites that allow it to be used. I have never turned on the software at Poker Stars. So I play for three and close it out for the night and go watch the fireworks.

Get this disturbing e-mail today about them going into my computer. Read on and read my response. Remember that poker edge was never activated-they went into my computer:

security@pokerstars.com wrote:

Bob: Is this a joke?

I have poker edge on my hardware and have no idea how to completely remove it.

But what is sickening about this e-mail is I have never used it while playing at Poker Stars. Who gave you the right to go into my computer and look for software that is not on or being used.

I know you are outside the jurisdiction of the laws of the United States, but that does not give you the right to go sniffing into my computer. If it was being used while I am playing I totally understand.

This is a disgrace.

Sincerely,

P.S. If you have any problems with this have Lee Jones call me. Otherwise, stay out of my computer.

WTF is the matter with the executives at this company?

2. I don't see what's wrong with their email? Actually I feel more comfortable knowing that stars is seeking out people that are using it (or potentially using it). Software is very tricky, and their email does not necessarily imply that they went 'into your computer'. More than likely, PokerEdge went into Stars, and they detected it.

Just my opinion.

3. why is this against their policy? isn't this the same thing as poker ace hud?
4. Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is poker-edge?

Tilt
5. I don't get what you are saying? The software was not activated. I was not using it.

They went into my computer, not only noticed the software, but noticed that at some point I had contacted the software. Why not go into anything in my computer. You have bank account info in your computer. The possiblities of infringe on any liberty are endless.

Also, even if I am not using the software, they are telling me what I can and cannot have in my computer. Even if I am not using this software at anytime with poker stars. If you don't see anything wrong with it, then I cannot even begin to explain the ramification that has!

6. I'd like to know too. I have seen several posts about this in past, but have always been scared to go to their website because I have heard that they can sniff this thing and know you have been there through cookies and possibly ban your account even if you aren't using it. So what actually is it and how does it differ from PAHUD?

7. I agree Azone, this is ridiculous behavior by pokerstars. These unregulated online poker sites make me sick with this kind of shit. This is just one of the reasons I'm quitting poker after this year's main event. I don't care if it gets outlawed, although it would also be gestapo type shit if that happened. This coupled w/ the fact that I spend a ton of time playing to barely break even. GG online poker.
8. its just a pool of players statistics. its basically just one big datamining resource which is illegal because u didnt get those stats by urself like u would with pokertracker. and datamining i think is illegal for cash games on stars also
9. Poker Edge is a service that, just like poker tracker, but on a larger scale database mines players games.

Some poker sites never became affiliated with poker edge, and they are with individual database mine software like poker tracker, so they are deciding to prohibit use of edge on their sites. They probably requested kick backs and never got it. Why do I think this-because they allow individuals to do this through poker tracker or poker office.

Nevertheless, this software has never been on when using poker stars. In the 3 years playing, it was never on. They came into my computer detected it, and then detected that communication had occured.

That is some scary sh-t!

10. What's the big deal? They just gave you a warning, relax.
11. Illegal is such a vague term when talking about the behavior of online poker sites.
12. if you never use it whats the big deal with getting rid of it get your story straight
13. 1) START > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

2) Right Click Internet Explorer > Properties > Delete Cookies
14. I assume it is tough to completely remove all traces of the program. Removing it would be much easier said than done. Probably would require a reformat.

15. stars has the right to target cheaters
16. DAMN, I was hoping this was going to be a "rigged" post. Those are always fun to read. :-)
17. 1st Tee Killer, your an idiot. Why respond with get your story str8. Why call my a liar? No need to show who you are in one sentence.

Ofleelucky, they did not warn me. They told me to take it off my computer. I can use it on other sites b/c it is not prohiibited, but they tell me it has to be taken off my computer.

Anyone hear remember history at all-remind you of those nice warm book burning days in Germany in the 30's. Poker stars is censoring my hard drive.

18. ronjon13 that comment adds nothing to this conversation.
19. Azone,

This is all part of the T & C and is available for all to view (before they AGREE to the terms) at the following link:

http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/room/prohibited/

20. Azone,

My instinct here is that there is that stars simply did not provide you enough information about what happened. I highly doubt they are scanning their users hard drives. It's not an issue of regulation, but rather an issue of customer trust, and Stars puts that at an all out premium.

I have contacted Lee Jones via email, requesting that someone from Stars responds to this thread. Hopefully we'll have some clarity on this soon.

21. You are a fucking nutjob? Yes, that's a question. Quit with the WWI Nazi Gustapo Fascist analogies, they don't apply.

By accepting to use pokerstars' software on your computer you agree to their ToS (Terms of Service). Read them. Datamining is the reason. You did not get all the data on these players yourself, SharkScope did it for you, which violates their agreement.

Because you had it installed in your machine that you also use to play on PokerStars with, its a violation. It's like having Counter-Strike with AimBot. If you have AimBot on your computer, Valve will pick up on it and ban you from Game Servers because it violates their agreement when you bought Counter-Strike. (Only example I could think of).

So therefore Azone, your closed.
22. So what your saying is that poker-edge is ok to mine other peoples data for profit, yet stars can't use programs to check for cookies to make sure your computer isn't using a prohibited program?

They are a business that is run as efficiently as any poker site in existence, and furthermore has firmly established itself as a preeminent customer service leader. Your entire post is so far off base as to be shameful. As if regulation by the US would change the real issue that you are running a program that was prohibited by Stars as per their terms of service.

I suggest you grow up and jump off the train of nitwits that keeps trying to find any excuse to bash a site. You didn't have money confiscated, you didn't have a pot pushed to another player when you had the winning hand, heck you didn't even suffer a series of bad beats. You did violate their terms of service and they called you on it, end of story.

Either disable all functions of poker-edge before using Stars again or play elsewhere, heck you can even wait for the "regulated" poker sites to come out.

23. I understand that, and if they detect me using it I would not. I have never used it on Poker stars.

They are not asking me to stop using something I have never used, they are asking me to remove a software-they went into my computer and found and then found communications.

I had no idea party did not want me to use it so when they detected it and told me I could not, I have not since then.

Party did not tell me I cannot use it on other sites, or we are going to go inside your computer and take a look at whatever we want.

24. Hey, take your common sense and logic elsewhere, pal... they're not welcome in this thread!!!
25. What an offensive childish tirade from you-way off course.

"that you are running a program that was prohibited by stars as per their terms of service."

That is probably the dumbest thing that Brsavage has ever said. If it is illegal on a site, I have never used it or if notified stopped immediately. I certainly have never had it running while playing at Stars.

Besides your childish tirade about me having a reason to bash a site, which has no basis in fact-the point is I cannot disable the functions and be done with it. The functions have never been enabled.

They want me to completely take it off my computer even when it can be used on other sites!
Thread Starter
26. So what I took from BR's post is that:

1. If you disagree w/ him your opinion is "shameful."

2. If you bash a poker site you are a "nitwit."
27. If you're that worried about it then i suggest removing all traces of pokerstars from your hard drive.
28. I can't update my posts for some reason so I have to make a new post.

So according to BR I am a shameful nitwit. LOL...

-DONK
29. This thread is pointless as stated by savage. Poker edge violates pokerstars terms of service, therefore to play on their site you cannot have poker edge on your computer. Seems pretty cut and dry. So stop whining about pokerstars and comparing them to facism. Yes they want you take it off your computer, you and everyone else. No they are not targeting you, no you are not special. Either follow their rules or play somewhere else.
