  1. This has probably been discussed on here in the past, but I don't care. I had a talk with my buddy at lunch that ended in debate.

    Question 1:
Is everybody who kills SNGs and MTTs online using Poker Tracker (or a variation of)?

    Question 2:
If you play a substantial amount of volume online and don't use any sort of real-time statistics program, is there a reason why?

    Question 3:
If you use a program, do you feel you would still be a winning player if you didn't?

  3. From what I've seen it's a absolute must for cash, not so much for mtt/sng. Would have to be careful in tourneys because a players stats could change so much at varying levels, could be misleading. I'd say it is more helpful at lower stakes where there is more variation between the solid TAG players and the calling/limping donks.

  4. I use HEM for cash and it's well worth it for cash, I think it's a bit over-rated for mtt's/sngs mainly the hud cause the hand samples are such a small smaple i know it has cost me some money from making bad reads from just looking at the stats.
  5. I use it for the 180 man SNGs. I find it is very very helpful to multitable because I don't have to watch the table to get a read on unknowns. Although the small sample size may be misleading sometimes, I make most of my plays not by the book based on poker tracker reads.

I know that Phil Galfond mentioned he and other top cash game pros don't use Poker Tracker HUD. I'm also pretty sure I heard a few top tourney players mention in wells they don't use any HUD. I could be wrong, but I guess maybe they are just that good at retaining information?

I can't speak for tournament players, but I'm pretty sure Phil Galfond said the top regulars in cash know how each other play, and they don't need any statistics to supplement that.

I would definitely still be a winning player if I kept playing the stakes I'm at. I don't think I'll ever stop being a winning player because if the limits I play get too tough for me to have an edge, I'll know to move down. I think it's better worded to ask, "How much extra money per hour do you think you make off of tracker statistics?" If I were to answer that question... maybe an extra $5 an hour? It's hard to ballpark it, but HEM really makes it easy to figure out some easy angles when you're multitabling. If I didn't have HEM, I'd have to multitable less, so I'd probably lose $5 or $10 an hour on my rate.
  7. Thanks for the responses so far.

Basically the conversation I had with my buddy was in regards to online pros who take down or FT tourney after tourney.

I told him about stat sites like OPR and Poker Tracker and guessed that many of these guys were utilizing all the tools at their disposal to give them an edge.

My buddy had no idea such sites and software existed and thought it was bogus that they do, saying it's a form of cheating.

I said if it wasn't public knowledge that this stuff was available for everyone, that would be bullshit. But since everyone can use it if they want to, the playing field is still level.

My friend asked me why your online stats aren't available to only you, why they had to be public domain. He suggested you should be able to log in somewhere to check your stats, but you shouldn't be able to look up the stats of your opponents; asking me if I'd like to go to a casino and sit at a table with a neon sign above my head advertising the type of player I am to everyone around me.

He had valid points and I didn't know the answer to the first part, so that was pretty much the end of our talk.

Does anyone know the answer to this? Why you can look up cash and tournament stats on people other than yourself?
