If you're talking about S&Gs then yes they are definitely tougher than they used to be, but they are still profitable for two reasons:
Edited By: Mindthis Aug 1st, 2010 at 09:39 PM
- There are still places in the online poker world where certain S&Gs are softer than others.
- New skills can emerge as a result of knowing that most players have good knowledge of ICM.
I will not disclose any more information about these two points because I'm not interested in seeing more grinders in the S&Gs I play in, armed with the knowledge I'd give them. But just know that S&Gs are still beatable if you go to the right places and adapt your game correctly. And if you have a bit of patience, MTTs have always been, still are, and will always be profitable. Every year there is a new wave of 18-year old wannabe pros who have no clue and even though they may one day end up being good, they will spew in MTTs before they get better. -
i saw a guy check back the top fullhouse today on the river. his reasoning was he thought his opponent had a flush.
-
To me all the knowledge in poker won't help you if you don't have control of your emotions, patience, discipline, focus, and fearlessness.
I think some of the better players don't give themselves enough credit for having those five things nailed down. -
really all you need to know is to click the All In button. poker is def tougher now, but still, ez game.
In all seriousness
Independent Chip Modeling, its been covered to death so there's plenty of info out there. once you get the basics check out this article.

The only thing ICM is good for is telling you as 2nd in chips on bubble to fold hands like JJ, TT, AK, AQ, AJ in spots where you KNOW the chip leader is shoving ATC because the short stack with 5bb is about to bust. All so that you can watch the donk short stack who is more than happy to blind himself off, get lucky in the BB time after time until you finally end up being the bubble boy. Screw ICM.

Edit: Before I get flamed I should clarify what I meant. ICM does not take into account the edge of having a bigger stack as it relates to being able to bully the shorter stacks. ICM also doesn't factor in time in terms of how long the bubble goes on for, so there comes a point where you WILL need to put your stack at risk (even if ICM says it's bad) if the big stack is going to continue to bully you and you know that it will end up going on too long. That is all. -
This thread is hilarious, a bunch of people tryin to showoff what they know about ICM etc and completely missing the point of this thread
-
i'm guessing there should be a link by OP that works so we know this is a sarcastic thread?
-
limp min-raising is unbeatable, everyone knows ICM
-
???
