I signed up to pocket fives a couple weeks ago and unfortunately my first post is quite serious. My stars account has been compromised and I am currently in discussion with pokerstars security about 4 transfers totalling $3,600 that i never made.
Their initial response was to claim it is a transfer dispute. They claim i knew about the transfers because i gave them the user name of the player funds were transferred to and amounts in my initial email i sent them... that was a ridiculous response as obviously that information was in my cashier history.
They have subsequently alleged I sent an email approving the transaction... however I never did and there is no such email in my email accounts sent folder.
They claim there was no change to the email address linked to the account and no failed log in attempts. I suppose they are saying most intrusions come from a changed pasword via a changed email address. But it cant be the only way. I suspect the internet service provider at the hotel i first stayed at here in Vegas is responsible.
Has anyone ever had unathorised access to their stars account?
Or another online account?
Does anyone know anyone who had unauthorised access to their account?
If so how was it resolved?
What can i do?
My account is currently frozen and I wont be playing any online poker til i get home and have my laptop re flashed.

Its becoming more frequent to hear of this lately.
I notice that you have a few stakes for sale on another site. Could this be a possible source of your hack?
maybe check to see if the transfers are to any members of that site. It shouldn't be too hard to check if they are signed up. Also try to remember if you have visited any new sites lately of if you downloaded any new software/trial programs.
I think pokerstars has a RSA type token that you can use to verify your logins that you can purchase using FPP's.
Most importantly.
Change your password as soon as they release your account. DON'T LET ANYBODY KNOW IT. It doesn't matter how much you trust someone. It's not worth the hassle, especially when you play for a a living.
If you have a regular backer, sort out a way to share the your results other than giving access to the account you use. You don't know what their computer might have on it either.
As for your computer, get a good antivirus/internet security package. Also when you have had you computer cleaned up. Make a back up of it BEFORE you connect it back to the net. that way you'll have a fresh copy of all your files without any bugs. Save your files separately from your programs and when you get a new program you can re load th eoriginal image of your hard drive, add the program, take another image and then load the extra info in. If you have a problem, you'll be able to track where it went wrong and restore it easily without losing multiple gigs of data.(like i did, i learnt the hard way)
I hope all this gets cleared up for you and hackers get ass raped and die slowly and painfully (they're all POS)
Good luck -
Thanks thats all good advice. I will look into the RSA type token you mentioned.
You mentioned this is becoming more common, so have other pocket five members had this happen? I would like to get in touch with someone who has been through this.
Also i am going to let stars know i have posted this here as its only fair to give them right of reply. -
I like to keep my password the exact same as my poker name. Trust me anyone hacking your account will not think your stupid enough to use the same password as your account name. It will be the last one they try
-
lol well it was the last one they would try, but now its the first one im sure lol

these threads scare the crap out of me.

1234. easier to remember. otherwise i have to write it on the back and i dont really like doing that

There's been heaps of threads about this. I've had accounts hacked on FTP and Cake but it was via the email hack method...

everyone should get the RSA unless you have only few hundred on stars. the rsa makes it near impossible for hackers/key logging programs to crack your account. gl2u

http://passwordsafe.sourceforge.net/
^^ This keeps all of your passwords in an encrypted file. Rather than typing them you copy and paste them, so keyloggers won't be able to see your password. It can also generate random passwords for different sites.
