  1. These have became my favorite type of tournament and at least initially I am fairly happy with my results. But is always room for improvement.

Something I am trying to understand is the raise and even reraise with A2xx type hand. Of course I play these hands ... and if in position & multi-way I might put in a small pot builder raise preflop. But get all my chips in play, especially fairly deep no.

When I first started playing PLO8 tournaments I was really struggling to cash or run deep. One of the things that I altered and greatly increased my results was number of preflop raises. In fact I rarely raise unless I can get majority in with AAxx hand with suite A and wheel card.

So thoughts/opinions from those of you who are much better players than I ... is raising and even reraising preflop with A2xx type hand positive expected value play? Why is it such a common play?
Is my tendency not to raise a lot preflop a leak in my game?

Example of what I am talking about from recent satellite on FTP

  2. i raise in with tons of garbage.

it's fun and gets me action. dont listen to the nits who will call you a donk.

either raise a wide range or not at all... otherwise you just betray your hand.
  3. I've done well in plo8 MTT's and the people I see raising alot with A2,A3,A4 type of hands with nothing else, I tend to make notes against them. Later in tourneys when they raise and the board comes something like KKJ.. I can steal pots off them with little resistance when it counts...

If I am going to raise I like hands that have a A and 2 low cards, preferably suited... Or something like A2 pocket pair... I also love hands like 2344, 3345, JJT9 etc...

but then again.. everytime I bust out of a plo8 tourney lately, I run the hand thru the p5's calculator and im usually like 1% to "lose both".. amazing how that 1% hits so fucking often...
