  1. i have always been a good tourney player but my cash game skills need work...seems that whenever i play cash i get ran down by the crappiest cards...say i raise with AK26 ill get called by half the table and then the flop with come K45...well someone always turns over a hands like 5578 and i dont improve...im starting to wonder if i should limp more...how do i make people pay for playing rag hands? if i could get heads up preflop it would be fine but when u get 4 or 5 callers well somebodys rags are going to hit.
  2. You shouldn't be raising with AK26. Maybe something like AAK2 or AA24, preferably dbl suited, would be a raising hand.
  3. While I haven't played much PLO H/L in a while, I can tell you that making a habit of raising hands such as AK62 won't do your bankroll any favours in the long run, even though you want players calling off their stacks with 8755, or similar rubbish, in this game.

When the money's deep, there's often value in limping, as you don't want to be raising only premium hands, thus giving your opponents good implied odds.
  4. thanks guys i understand your logic

The key in full ring PLO8 games is really the post flop game. When it comes to hands like AK26 I think it's ok to raise or reraise in position, if you think you can get the hand heads up which will give you a good chance of taking the pot down with a bet in position on any flop. However - in the games under 1/2 you usually get a lot of limper/callers with all sort of non-quality hands, who will never fold to a pot size bet pre flop. Since those opponents make a lot of misstakes post flop I suggest you just call and see a flop, at least in early position. If there is a multiway pot with a board like K45 I'm probably just gonna call and see what hits the turn. Chances is that there is players who will chase worse low hands, and also that you're facing opponents playing hands like A2J9, giving you a chance to win the high pot without improving.

A hand like AK26 plays good heads up on K45, so in a situation like that I'm probably jaming too. But in a multiway pot I chose a more passive style, and hope to hit the nut low (multiway) and then maybe some lucky 3 or good scare cards which enables me to bluff of hands like 555 (say a 7 and an 8 hit).

My experiances say that in the low stake games up to PL 0.5/1 or 1/2 it will often pay off playing pretty loose-passive pre flop. So in those I want to see a lot of flops, knowing that when I hit something big I usually get paid of anyway. There is quite a difference in the PL 2/4 and 3/6 games however, especially shorthanded, where you will need a lot more aggression and bluff/semi bluff a lot to be able to extract value. (Because opponents are better, and because the hands will most of the time be played 2 or 3 way).
  6. You can raise that hand from MP on. Not raising enough preflop is a huge leak most players have. I understand the thoughts behind just limping, but if you look deeper into it you see why you want to raise more.
