  1. people talk a lot about calculating pot odds and seem to have various ways of doing it. what would be your proven method when deciding when to raise, fold or smooth call. i know there's different reasons pre and post so feel free to touch on each if you like.
  2. u take the amount in the pot and compare it to the amount to call, those are your pot odds. 1k in the pot and u need to call 500, ur gettin 2 to 1. youre probably confused about something
  3. Raisin or smooth calling has nothing to do with pot odds as far as im aware lol??

U flat call or raise depending on ur position and what ur plan is with that perticular hand, for exampe you can raise to protect ur hand or raise to push a player off a hand that may be stronger than urs

Like stackin said above think u mite be gettin alil confused with the two
  4. i think you might be asking about pot odds vs your hand win rate, or implied odds. But yes the two posts above me are correct about pot odds.
  5. okay. thank you for the replies!

  6. 1k in the pot and u need to put 500 to call thats 2:1... 2:1 = 1/ 2+1 ....= 1/3 therefore you must have a 33% chance of winning to be profitable play, preflop + postflop this can be used, but implied odds inflate the pot size......now instead of 1k in the pot, you think u can win his other 2k if u hit..so the pot is an implied 3k.......now ur getting 6:1...= 1/1+6 ...= 1/7,so the dynamics change. That dosen't mean u should always push with a flush draw don't take it the wrong way, use implied odds in situations where your opponent has a +~5-10% edge on you etc or if its a short stack betting their pockets on the flop and u've got a nice draw..many feasable usages
