With so many entries in 2005, what will be the changes or not that will be made for the years ahead.
Second question where does poker peak at. stars has had record 80,000+ playing, the 500k tourney record number of entries. -
<<WITH ahead. years the for made be will that not or changes what 2005, in entries many so>>
The main event is going to be over two weeks this year from Day 1 to the Final Table. (way too long for a lot of people that have regular jobs.)
I think that it would be a good idea to play several days at different dates during the couple of months leading up to the main event. All "Day 1s" would play down to the same number of players and allow "Day 2" to be 1 actual day. The Day 1s could become 2 day events if necessary. It would essentially be a $10,000 Super Sat to the Main Event allowing you to carry your chip stack to the event. Players would not be allowed to play more than 1 "Day 1"
Example - 5 "Day 1s" that play the Five Fridays (or every other Friday) Leading up to the Main Event (or earlier) Based on 7,500 Players for example (can be modified for more or less players)
1st Day 1 - 1,500 Players - play down to 400 (or approx. 400 based on all Day 1s stopping at Same Level)
2nd Day 1 - same
3rd Day 1 - same
4th Day 1 - same
5th Day 1 - same
The Day 1 events could be two day events if necessary to reduce the field accordingly.
Day 2 - Entire remaining field plays on the same day. (approx 2,000 people)
Remaining Days - progress same as this years Event.
Just my rambling thoughts on the subject. Coming for someone that is trying to figure out how I am going to take 2 weeks off from work during the WSOP.

A two week long tournament looks crazy…..can’t imagine playing for 10 days and
bubbling….ouch
What are the estimates/guesstimates/wags on the number of entries and payout structure for the main event? -
I think that the buy-in should be modified to account for inflation.
$10,000 in 1970 = $50927.84 in 2005 (based on the consumer price index)
So, it should have been at least a $50K buy-in this year. -

Why not have everyone playing day 1 on the same day but at different casino's? Harrah's Entertainment now owns the Rio, Binions, Harrah's and multiple other casino's I beleive. They could split day 1 up between all the casino's so that there wouldn't be a need for a week long day 1 field. IMO it's ridiculous to play in let's say day 1 A...then have to wait 4 more days to continue w the same tournament.
With the rise of the WSOP to astonishing numbers, they need to use ALL of their resources to the max to ensure the integrity of the series. Tradition has always held that the WSOP is held at Binions. Well, that tradition was obviously "breached" this year with so many players...so why not go the extra step and use the rest of Harrah's resources while continuing to play the FINAL TABLE at Binion's? Seems like a logical solution to me. -
I haven't read any of the replies, so I'm sorry if I'm repeating what someone else already said.
Within the next two years, the WSOP main event will definitely be moved to either a $20K buy-in or $25K. That'll reduce the field probably in half.
Think about it, not only does the WPT have a $25K buy-in, but there's also the 15K buy-in for the five-diamond classic. The good players want to player bigger buy-in tournaments, so the Main Event isn't going to be known as "one of the smaller buy-in tourneys" for much longer.
But, I don't know. You would think the WSOP, and Las Vegas for that matter, would love to someday have 10,000 entrants. Sure, it causes a lot of stress on the casino holding it, but it creates so much revenue for every party involved.
I just think the big name pros will get to the point where they know they can't get through a field that big, and will start to take other tournaments more seriously.
