what's a decent, not too intensive, post-grad program somewhere cool and semi-reputable in a fun area in australia? for an econ major from a decent US university with a 3.0, who has studied abroad? in case i want to kill a little time in a cpl years & play some cash around asia & go scuba diving, especially if wsop reaches macau.

    cheers
  2. i graduated last spring from syracuse and am currently studying for the lsats to go back to school next fall. although one or two years ago i would agree with most of you that poker>school without much thought to it, i really disagree with most of you at this point in my life. having a degree will financially secure yourself for the bare minumum for the rest of your life, which is something that is priceless. by this i mean you will never end up working at a mcdonalds, or some bs retail job like that. yes poker is highly lucrative but i think calbandgreat really nailed it with his post. the games will only get tougher and more and more regs will be weeded out, many left on their ass broke, without a degree, and unable to secure a good future. it seems pretty irresponsible to me to pass up on getting a degree if one has the opportunity and resources to do so just because of a fad which they had made (mostly insignificant) money off of for a few years of their young lives.

Noone will care that you have the degree. They'd 95-99% take the kid with the fresh edegree in finance. (He'll probably actualy remember stuff from relevant coursework, whereas you won't.)

Also the 24 year old kid will probably be a better cultural fit if the place hires a ton of entry level people - as he won't be the old guy. If you think you are going to enter the real world, do it sooner than later.

problem: there isn't any relevant coursework

My background is not in the financial arena, however, studying by external mode (that is off campus) for post graduate quals is quite common here. Because of this you can set yourself up in any location you like - they will let you do anything from 25% of full time load to 100% which means you have some flexibility (can work a job or keep grinding to survive). The biggest issue is that as an overseas student you would be subject to full fees - mind you if you can afford it the universities here seem more than happy to take ur $s. There are some universities here that have a quite high number of international students from all over the world. As for which university, that depends on what specific aspects you are wanting to study. USQ based in Toowoomba (not a place of fun, sun or sand), Queensland has been delivering distance education the longest and seems to have a good rep in relation to their business courses. Additionally they have a satellite campus in Singapore amongst other places such as the Sunshine Coast. Macquarie also has a fair rep as others pointed out + u have Star City Casino there, with ANZPT, APPT, and other tourneys there. Mind u the temporary room sucks, and I was not overly impressed with the way things were run particularly relating to tourneys.

As for WSOP in Macau - who knows, but the APPT is already holding events there. I think it is only a matter of time b4 the WSOP also arrives especially given the poker boom in Asia.

    Good luck
